Not good enough for Stoke, both good enough to start for Burnley. “What’s all the fuss about?”
epitomizes Stoke’s transfer plan (or lack thereof).

Letting Bardsley go for peanuts was daft.
Letting the only LB at the club go was unforgivable.
Heads should have rolled.

I thought it was insane when we decided to keep Johnson and let Bards go, but I thought it was OK to let Pieters go as I was sure we had someone else lined up. Since then we haven't really had anybody close to good enough playing in that position! What did Burnley pay, £1M?, and we paid £4M for Smith who certainly is an inferior player to Pieters!!! How we have sold players for next to nothing and bought players for way more than they are actually worth the last seasons is really disturbing!

Wasn’t pieters one of the bad boys at the club pissing the chairman off or something to that extent? Not buying a proper left back though is beyond forgiveable and is one of the major reasons we are in the shit at the moment.

Pieters doing well for them on right side of midfield as well.
Makes me physically sick the way we let him go and for peanuts.
He was my favourite player and my little one loved him as well.

Can you imagine the comments on the Today's Team thread if our manager had ever picked Pieters to play on the right side of midfield?

Not that, that would have mattered if it had proven to be a managerial masterstroke.

He may have had a very good reason for standing up to the chairman. Good leaders are always ready to listen and take advice from anywhere, even the tea person, especially seasoned veterans like Pieters. He played his heart out for Stoke. Hughes messed him up by trying to convert him to a wing-back. He did the same to Diouf.

He is doing more than ok. If we'd kept Erik we'd had a viable alternative to playing Ince on the right. Who would ever have thought that?

I was thinking more of the "not more bloody square pegs in round holes" types on here keeling over with that old Victorian favourite apoplexy before the match even kicked off.

We were absolutely right to let Pieters go when we did, as we were with Whelan, Walters, Huth etc.
The problem is we just didn’t replace him.
People slaughter the current players for not caring about the club, well Pieters was pictured in a night club the night before a crucial game when we were fighting for our lives.
We don’t know most of what goes on behind closed doors at the club, but it certainly became apparent that Pieters wasn’t exactly the model pro we all thought he was.

I was drinking with Huddy and Geoff Salmons at Florence Club until 2am on the Saturday morning before they both turned up in the afternoon in the side that beat L'pool at The Vic. This 'model pro' stuff does my head in at times. It's a good job Waddo didn't give a toss about it. OS.
