I have seen some shit down the years but this spineless bunch have raised the bar. In years gone by the club was always hampered by the lack of money to invest, That’s not the case this time and that’s what sets this squad apart. I really do detest a lot of this squad and it makes me angry just to watch them Money doesn’t buy success Unless you are Man City that is At least we can prove something Because what we have in the squad are pretty worthless It does though If you've the right people scouting and buying the players Blackburn won the prem Chelsea Man Utd Man City of recent times. We've scouted (said loosely) and brought shit.

I hope when things are better we get a one-off edition of The Oatcake published, with a serious write up of the last 4+ years: the relegation(s), hidings, shameful stats, money spent etc. Because this is one of the low points in the club's history and it needs to be analysed and discussed for posterity. A decline of this magnitude given the resources available must be unprecedented. I mean, we're not far off '0-4 at Springfield Park or losing to nine man Millwall territory' here. We're really that bad. I'd say we're already there. When the money we've spent is taken into account, that 3-0 at Wigan last week was as bad as that 4-0 at Wigan in the early 90s. The 9 men thing is coming too I'm sure of that. Probably would have already happened this season if one of our away opponents had managed to go down to 9 men this season.

And that sort of attitude played a massive part in our downfall. As a fanbase we have accepted this shit. The players, managers and owners have got off lightly. Applauding Lambert off ffs. What a load of self harming bollocks that was. Why did people do it? And you’ve still had people stick up for the ear cupping wankers of today. This lot have got of lightly just like the ones before them. This 'behind closed doors' thing, will really hit home when we stay up on goal difference, at points-deducted Wigan's expense, & we're not allowed in the ground to see Clucas running round all four touchlines, naked, shusshing us & telling us 'I told you so!'. I'm just clinging to the fact that for all the disdain these charlatan, mercenary fuckers, hold for the Club & it's supporters, my disdain for them is 1,000-fold.

We have had some really SHIT squads over the years.
But considering how much money has been spent on players this is the worst squadnby far.
We obviously do not check on players 'bottle' during potential signing players.
MON has a hell of a job. I think he is a good manager but God, he will need us all behind him, not hounding him.
Stay up or not, we need root and branch reform. A new spine.
I hope we stay up. But I am not certain. But I live in hope.

I take it you weren’t around in 1985? Completely different set of circumstances. We were financially in the shit and reduced to playing youngsters in the top flight back then. Now, we're richer than we've ever been. Our current decline is down to arrogance and lack of action.

Not only is it a very very poor squad, apart from a handful of players, they are very Unlikeable.
It's a pity we can't afford to rip up their contracts and tell them to piss off.

Tonight is on the manager again imo . You beat Barnsley 4-0, then put the same side out bar one and change the formation. Why? Because Leeds are far greater than Barnsley? And the way we set up was actually effective until Smith dropped a bollock. Taking Collins off wasa huge mistake so I can see that argument but its a player based issue for me mate. Its a senior management issue. They have allowed this pile of shit to accumulate, they are accountable. Everyone else are just minor protagonists in the very sorry tale of the Great Stoke City Decline.

The lowest of the lows, as a Stoke fan (for me at least) are 4 very specific games. Wigan 4-0 under Ball and the Grass Bank. 2-0 to 9 man Millwall and 4-0 away at Gillingham both under Little with possibly the 1997 home hammering by Birmingham and the subsequent post-match violence. I commented last week, that the 3-0 at Wigan last week was on a par with the 4-0 at Springfield Park all those years ago and that pound for pound, this has to be right up there with the worst team we've ever had.

I take it you weren’t around in 1985? That was in a higher division and we had the excuse of being really skint so we were having to play has beens, never have beens and raw youngsters who were painfully unprepared for the level of football required. We're not really skint this time, this dreadful squad is the fault of mismanagement and that's what sticks in the craw for so many fans.

Everything has to change from the CEO down to the match day stewards. oh they are. They are dreadful. Go through them and to a man, they are terrible. Butland - Been an excellent goalkeeper but in terrible form for some time. Seems hard to imagine that he can get back to former glories, reminiscent of Joe Hart Davies - So bad he can't even challenge for a place in the starting line up. Technically my 7 year old is a better keeper than him (and I'm not kidding either) Smith - I don't actually mind Smith as a player but everytime I think he's OK he does something stupid like yesterday Edwards - Showed early promise but proved consistently, for 2 seasons, that he's pretty crap with a bad attitude Lindsay - Rubbish Chester - Rubbish Batth - Rubbish...there is no way in the world he'd get through the current academy system. He simply can't play football and he's not even an effective stopper in the mould of Justin Whittle Collins - Huge potential, should probably have played more than he has but has hardly covered himself in glory with the chances he has been given. Is it hype. Is he a victim of circumstance? Shawcross - injury prone so we haven't had him when we desperately need him BMI - Garbage. Fraud of a player and soft as shit whether at left back or centre back Ward - should have retired long ago. Hopeless Tymon - Lucky to have a professional contract, certainly as a left back Ince - Tin man, one paced, one footed and generally pretty crap Mclean - Talentless, lucky dip footballer Cousins - extremely limited but one I don't find as utterly crap as the majority seem to do. Thompson - If you had to draw a picture of a "nothing player", you'd draw one of him Clucas - Invisible man far too often and yet another tin man Allen - Who knows. When he plays he's often hopeless. When he doesn't, he becomes a much better player. At least he can run. Diouf - Carthorse. Sprinter in a pair of football boots. Had a knack, an eternity ago, of always getting chances, often missing them no matter how easy Gregory - Hopeless Vokes - Wasn't that good when he was supposedly good. Rubbish now Campbell - Our one hope of a brighter future yet far from the finished article Verlinden - Who knows. Another with lots of potential Have I missed anyone? There aren't many in that lot I'd actually choose to keep. Allen, Campbell, Shawcross, Verlinden, Smith and Cousins would be about it because the rest of either rubbish, past it or a combination of both. The similarities between this team and that of Brian Little are uncanny. Brian Little's team barely cost a penny though and did have Kav and Thorne who were among the best players in the division at that time. No legs, no heart and very little ability, led off the pitch by a deeply unpopular CEO who was disliked by players, supporters and staff alike.

The reality of the situation we find ourselves in, is, in my opinion, all down to the fact that Peter Coates, has allowed his son to totally fuck up everything that was good about Stoke City FC.v John Coates is a man who doesn't know the first fucking thing about running a successful football club. In fact I don't think he knows the first fucking about football in general. Another thing I find astonishing, is that I haven't heard or read any thing the Coates family have to say about the club's demise. Are they burying their heads in the sand and hoping all this will go away? Who the fuck knows. I have one nagging worry, in the back of my mind. We are in such a downward spiral, and have been for the past 3 or 4 years, is it really inconceivable, that we could be the second oldest club ( don't care what they say about forest, to me Stoke, have and always be the second oldest club ) to drop out of the football league. It's the stuff of fucking nightmares.

Bloody hell Dave, faced with that avalanche of evidence I will concede that said there is still something running through the club like a witch's curse. And the owners have allowed it to fester. I'm convinced these players would be better if not for that toxicity. But yeah ok they aint that good. I disagree about Mclean though. At least he has given his all and I don't think he is as limited as some say. But that's my opinion.

To spin it the other way....3-4 years ago Butland was seen as a top half standard keeper in premier league (although of course he's lost all form since).
Martins Indi was regular for Holland when they finished 3rd in 2014 world cup and had seasons in premier league where he looked alright.
Vokes and Ward were regulars for Burnley, mid table in premier league since 2015.
Tom Ince, outstanding player at this level for Blackpool. Think the moves since then have blunted his ambition and he's just a bog standard championship wide man now, capable of odd good go.
Not a fan of McClean but again regular starter for WBA when Pulis was there and they were finishing 11th or 12th in the premier league.
Nick Powell had a fantastic end of last season with Wigan but clearly you need to get into his head on regular basis.
Joe Allen, in euro 2016 squad of tournament.
Most are way better than fighting championship relegation battles as indicated by their football CVs. Just seems a malaise at Stoke that started late 2016 and you can't seem to shake things up no matter who the manager is or the squad. I personally wouldn't have signed guys like Batth, Cousins, Smith as they were pretty average in championship (Wolves didn't play Batth much when they went up in 2018) but seems you're on that downward spiral Sunderland have been on the last five years.

You look at someone like Eric Pieters. Was a Dutch international and seemingly solid enough at Stoke for first 2-3 years given he was a regular in a team that was finishing 9th. Then seems to lose all manner of discipline from 2017 onwards, parking in the owner's spot and being caught in Cheshire nightclub a day or so before a game.
Goes to Burnley and suddenly he's playing in all sorts of positions to help the team, Burnley in that old Stoke position of 10th in the premier league.
Likes of Berahino, Jese, Choupo and Imbula must've been total poision in the dressing room and it lead to others just giving up a bit like Pieters and Bruno. Even with them leaving that seems to have lingered aswell as the losing mentality.
Some who leave in the summer will probably find a mid table championship club and look decent enough again e.g. Vokes and Ward.

Thayt got a short memory if this is the worst squad you have seen mate. We’ve finished half way down the third division before, I was at Wigan , standing on a grassy bank watching us lose 4-0, I was at Telford, queuing up outside next to Waddo to watch us get beat. Keep the faith, we are all pissed off when we lie down like tonight but don’t get things out of proportion. The manager has done a great job to get us away from being buried, I’m sure he’s taking it all in, and making plans for next season Yeah but that team was put together on Green Shield stamps and whatever was found down the back of the sofa cushions. This team however. Want-always that don’t have the intellect to realize no one will want them, players that must be loving empty stadiums, a ‘world class’ goalkeeper who dives into the space his feet were occupying and somehow makes himself smaller in the process. I played to a reasonable standard back in the day. I was in an under 14 side and gave away a pen in a very similar manner. My then manager spent the entire half team team talk, in front of twenty people, ripping me a new arsehole. I never did it again.
