Haven’t they waited until 1st July to do this so that it doesn’t impact the current season? The date must be significant in some regard, so I was thinking much the same thing. Maybe their lawyers and administrators know something that the rest of us, in the rush to "celebrate," may not have considered.

Definitely gives us a fighting chance now. This one sim has it reducing our relegation chances from 32% to 18% And has Wigan at 83% as opposed to 0%! He is right - they are the form team and could easily see a good haul of points so long as their players are not mentally affected by the news from that run in www.transfermarkt.co.uk/championship/formtabelle/wettbewerb/GB2?saison_id=2019&min=28&max=40Yeah - they were very impressive. Top of the league in the 2020 table - and pulling away if you take the table from the end of January. It could hit them hard mentally though. To go from a 0% chance of relegation to a real battle, especially if they lose a couple quickly, they'll really be playing catch-u,p even with a friendlyish run-in on paper

12 point reduction confirmed placing Wigan bottom! Press have changed their minds and the deduction may well be for next season!!

It works both ways though: teams around them know they're effectively in the bottom three at the moment so could be more motivated to beat them and keep them down there.

12 point reduction confirmed placing Wigan bottom! Press have changed their minds and the deduction may well be for next season!! If they finish above the relegation zone, then it’s applied this season. If they finish bottom 3, it is applied in League 1. We have the simple maths for our useless players, they need shooting if they don’t give it any effort whatsoever.

Rules look pretty clear cut, 12 points this season, any alteration even for covid situation would not stand up to a legal challenge. This would put them 5 points behind us, so it would take them until next Wednesday to catch us.

According to the BBC: The sanction will be applied at the end of this season if the Latics, 14th in the Championship, finish outside the bottom three after 46 games.
Should Wigan finish in the relegation zone, the penalty will be applied during the 2020-21 season instead.
So as I read it they are on 38.

It’s still down to us we just have to beat Barnsley! Nothing else matters....6 cup finals etc that’s the only way to think...but i still can’t pick a team I have any confidence in whatsoever it feels that bad!

So now the maths is easy. Stay above two other teams and within 12 points of Wigan. I bet we naff it up. They’ll still finish above us,9 unbeaten,7 without conceding 🤔 Massive test of their mental toughness though, the players must be gutted.....

So if we beat Barnsley on Saturday and they lose to Brentford away, we'll have an 8-pt lead on them.
Not insurmountable at all given how shite we've looked, but very tough to overhaul in 5 games

Given their current form it won't take them long to get out of the bottom 3.

DH: The case is still ongoing, Craig. It is hardly surprising given the complexity of the charge. The outcome of the hearing could possibly be this week but it wouldn’t shock me if we don’t find out until next week. I have not been given an indication on what it will go. All I know is both sides are confident. I know for a fact that the Owls believe they have a strong case, hence why they have contested the charge The potential points deduction Luke Brough asks: If the worst happens and Wednesday get deducted 12 points, do you think the team could still get enough points to stay up? What points tally do you think will be enough this year?DH: Good question. Wednesday are 10 points clear of the relegation zone with seven matches remaining. If they were deducted 12 right now, they would be two points adrift of safety. Virtually all of the teams at the bottom won over the weekend. The one thing you can always guarantee with the Championship is there will be twists and turns. The old cliche of anyone can beat anyone is very true. I reckon 50 points could be enough so Wednesday would need a further three wins and a draw. We know they have got a tough run-in but they have got nothing to fear if they carry on performing like they have done since the restart.

That takes Wigan straight to the bottom of the league then, though obviously might not apply straight away, could be a bit yet. A possibility that, by default, we have been spared. What plan does God have for our club? I’m never sure what he has in mind for us but if you listen really hard you can usually hear him giggling.

For those unaware how it works in regards points deduction It all waits until the end of the season....if they get relegated automatically it’s next season but if they don’t they’ll come off this seasons That’s because Leeds abused it the season we got promoted so they changed the rules Making it simple for my benefit - in the unlikely event they get relegated, they would start League 1 with -12 points; If they stay up in the championship, then the 12 point deduction is applied to their Championship points total at the end of THIS season which COULD then relegate them to League 1. League 1 is a possibility in either scenario?

However, if the Club is not in the relegation places following the final game of season, the sanction will be then be applied to their season 2019/20 total and final league standings amended as appropriate." That reads very much like if they finish in the bottom three it gets rolled over to next season, if not then the deduction is applied regardless of where that end deduction takes them.

No it is a 12 point deduction this season unless they would be relegated anyway when it goes to next season in League 1. If they finish 13 points above the drop line this year they lose 12 points and finish 1 point above.

I'm led to believe the new owners only took charge recently, obviously passed the EFL fit and proper person test and now the EFL are coming down on them like a ton of bricks. I really can't celebrate it as our club might be in their hands in the future, and who knows what they'd do to us.

Does this give us a better chance of survival or a worse one? Wigan have to play Barnsley, Hull and Charlton over the course of their next 3 fixtures according to a pal of mine. I'm not sure what order. Obviously Barnsley isn't first up for them.
