Ive seen the players blamed, the manager, the CEO and of course all carry some proportion of the blame for recent years.
The single biggest issue at the club is the man running the club, we are no longer in Peters golden years, John has ran the club full time for 4 years now coinciding with our change in fortunes.
Don't get me wrong I love we are owned locally by a family who do so much for the local area but this clown is not holding any of the employees below him to account and that kind of attitude creates the rot that we are now seeing and shows no sign of changing.
We need a complete overhaul stating at the very top.

You forget that John's "Modus Operandi" seems very much to revolve around information gathering trips to the pub, which is where he allegedly gets many of his ideas and tips. Because of the extended lockdown closures, this theatre has been closed off for him and this has very much restricted his activities. He is out of his comfort zone. I'm sure that after licenced premises reopen and he can get to work properly again, he will come up with a string of important new strategies and options for action.

The club is unfortunately entirely dependent on the Coates family financially - if they pull the plug we would be completely fucked as even if they cancelled the debts on leaving our ongoing player salary obligations would drive any normally-run Championship or League One team into the ground very quickly.
It seems pretty clear Jon Coates is in no way up to the job of running this club but unless he has the honesty to recognise that himself and appoint someone more qualified, he is here to stay.

Well you either need to convince bet365 to write off some £250m and take a loss on it, or you need to find someone else to come in at the very top with that amount of money just to come into the club and wipe out its debt.
The reality is that in football, despite the best of intentions for the vast majority of owners coming in, it doesn't work out. Over a long enough period of time, no clubs ownership is a success. Even if a team has a brilliant 30 year stint, if the owner stays in place for 40 years and the last 10 years are shit then it will be seen as a failure in most fans eyes.

Blackburn - taken over by the Venkys in 2010 - relegated in 2012. 12/13 - net spend +5M 13/14 - net spend -2M 14/15 - net spend +2M 15/16 - net spend -25M 16/17 - net spend -11M total -31M Relegated to League One 5 years after dropping from the PL Sunderland - relegated from the PL in 2017 17/18 - net spend -26M Relegated to League One Bolton Wanderers - relegated to the Championship in 2012 12/13 - net spend +3M 13/14 - net spend +2M 14/15 - net spend -0.5M 15/16 - net spend -2M 16/17 - net spend -5M 17/18 - net spend -6M total -8.5M Stoke City - relegated from PL in 2018 18/19 - net spend +30M 19/20 - net spend + 5M total +35M I don't expect to spend that money and walk the league but christ, to spend that much and be pretty much in League One after two seasons is nothing short of rank incompetence, arrogance and whatever other cliche you can chuck at it. How can anyone say they are competent owners when the Venkys, actively asset stripping lasted 5 seasons at this level and Bolton Wanderers, who were actively imploding, lasted 6!?

I wouldn't criticise them for spending money, I'd criticise them for not putting a structure in place where we had a Director of Football overseeing the ethos and direction of the club, and a recruitment team that is tailored to spot players that fit into the managers style of play. We got relegated, shit happens. But at that point we just drifted further into decline which was incompetent.....

So the incompetence is in some way related to the amount we've spent? Lambert aside the managerial appointments have generally been something the fanbase could see merits in. Funnily enough the two least well received, Hughes (who was stated by Peter as John's first decision/influence) and Lambert were those that arguably had the greatest degree of success. Lambert came closer, in terms of points, than Rowett and Jones did to their targets. It isn't a mark of your incompetence if when your house is on fire you call out the fire brigade and your house ends up burnt to the ground. Believe it or not even if every team in the league makes brilliant, flawless decisions, someone still has to finish bottom of the league by virtue of how it works. As an owner you can do everything right and still finish bottom of the league. That isn't to say everything has been done right, but its a simple reality.

They need to bring TP back to oversee the running of the club for them. As much as I hate to admit it, it would not be the worst decision. TP made every decision whilst here and the board trusted him to do so aswell, not that I think he would come in that sort of capacity and it never ends well when a manager/former manager is making decisions for the current manager. Get to the end of the season and give MON the confidence they gave TP and trust him to make ALL of the footballing decisions and a say in contracts and total control of transfers.

He has no Club management experience of any note and has been taken for a mug. That's my take on things anyway.

Its not the appointments, some have been ok as you say, its the ethos and identity of the club. And guess what the useless lumps have left us without one for a long time now. That is their responsibility. So of course they are to blame. Maybe not totally but they are to blame.

So the incompetence is in some way related to the amount we've spent? In our case it is because it has been spent badly by managers and a process that has been designed (?) and ran by either the owners or people they employ. A big budget spent badly is twice as bad as a tight budget spent wisely. The tight budget can grow income by selling players on at the right time, whilst steadily improving (if restrictive) yet the big budget spent badly harms you in two ways - the here and now if you get a toxic mix of players along with the future when you fail FFP and restrict your ability to turn it around. You simply have to question the owners in this case since these issues are now spanning a number of managers with the problems getting worse and they seemingly refusing to learn from their mistakes. The one plus point is they admit to their mistakes and have done twice. Therein lies the rub. Twice the mistakes and twice the non learning. We've essentially re-mortgaged a house that is falling down, thrown money at re-doing the driveway and are now standing outside wondering why the roof still hasn't been fixed.

I still think they’ve needed a Director of football or at least a non exec director with football knowledge to take feedback or seek advice from?
They can afford it and they could get rid of it easily if it didn’t work but at least take some diverse input! All big companies do this and for good reason!

Its a total shambles and the blame lies mostly if not totally upstairs. They need to re structure and start again with a new direction and identity instead of this billy big bollox papering over the cracks with more and more expensive shit. Its gone way past a joke now. Stopped being funny about 3 years ago if you ask me.

I said a few years ago that he could be the big problem at the Club. Little junior taking over from papa. Silver spoon blah blah... Nowt like petty rich family empire building.

We cant reasonably change the owners, within reason we shouldnt need to. They have enough good will in the bank, along with cash to get us back to the premier league. But the more i've heard from the john the more its startlingly apparent we are running a football club in 2020 with a 1997 philosophy. Not only that but the ability to judge character whether the manager or CEO is seriously worrying.
We need a new CEO and Director of Football ASAP. Both with proven track records of success. Not up and comers. Not bottom half championship or top half league one. Go and get the people from the clubs we aspire to be or emulate. Clubs that for all intents and purposes appear well run from the outside looking in. Southampton/Everton/Derby/Brentford perhaps (where our goalkeeper coach went ironically)
Or look even higher, we need a complete culture change at Stoke City football club, the days of the club being a shambles and us consistently excepting 3rd/4th best need to be over. This has to be our bottom, we have to build from here.
Im sick of it, im sick of the 'little old stoke', 'good enough for us' bullshit. The club dont take it seriously then whos surprised the players dont? The joke cast of characters behind the scenes needs ridding as well. The jobs for boys, accept any old crap has to stop. Its like a cancer. And im afraid the tumour's started at the top. I want us to behave like we want to win games of football. We want to be good at everything we do. Like it matters. Because its people jobs, livelihoods and it's what some people live for. Im sick of us being a joke. Its probably the worst thing TP did for us was create that outlook. It stinks throughout the whole place.
If things haven't drastically changed by the end of the season, and I mean drastically. We need to protest.

I'm not sure there will be the will to protest when things get back to normal. If we're a League One club, the season starts behind closed doors and we don't get off to a good start we're going to be playing in front of extremely sparse crowds. In fact, even if we survive this season, there isn't really much to look forward to in the Championship next season is there?
People soon get out of the habit of watching football when they become disillusioned and with the economic crisis that is sure to befall our city, the club will soon come to realise that fans have much more important things to do with their money than to throw it away on the dross they're continuing to serve up.

What? On what basis? Seriously, this fucking forum

On what basis? Seriously, this fucking forum No player signed for this club that TP didnt want with the exception being Palacios who had to come as a make weight in the Crouch deal who TP had highlighted as his No1 target that summer. Part of the reason he left was due to the appointment of MC and no longer having full control of who came and went from his squad and the Coates trust TPs word on every aspect of the club. Over the last few years we have allowed Cartwright and Scholes too much control over first team affairs and the results speak for themselves.

Jon coates is an extension of peter coates. He is the owner of the club. He and his family have backed their managers. Unless he's interfering somehow, how is he to blame? So lets just keep falling down the leagues and not question the person running the club at all. Oh yeah and he appointed a manager on the back of a conversation in the pub. Reeks of professionalism, that ended well.

Maybe he's not fit to run a football club. Maybe he's picked the wrong managers. Maybe he's let his CEO have too much his own way. I said a few years ago that he could be the big problem at the Club. Little junior taking over from papa. Silver spoon blah blah... Nowt like petty rich family empire building. Having met John and Peter a few times. Forget Peter for a minute, his record speaks for it's self. My meetings (social not business) doesn't put me in a position to give my opinion on how good John is at business or running a football club. It has however allowed me to form an opinion, that John is a down to earth nice guy, that loves the club. I also believe he's see it like a true Stoke City loving fan. He may be very wealthy, but I think silver spoon is well wide of the mark. I met whole family except for Denise. They are all down to earth Stokies.

A very close family member of mine has met all of them quite a few times and I can extend your thoughts to Denise also.

Im sure he is a very decent and nice person and has the best intentions, but that does not mean he has inherited his Dads (or Sister's) understanding on how to run a business. As you about Peter, John's record speaks for it self, 4 years of failure that shows no sign of letting up.

Re Peter, I've watched stoke through late 80's 90's pre prem shite. What he has done for this club still deserves huge respect. Without him we'd have been scratching around the 2nd/3rd tier for last 15 years, like the period before. Which as we know, he was also part responsible for. For me he still has credit and he's still plowing cash in. Also who else is there?
