Right here me out. For some unknown reason their is still no official word on whether diouf is a stoke player or not, and imo I can’t see why he can’t even get a game off the bench. Yes he may not be The best shot taker, but he’s the only player who can constantly gets in positions to even get the chance to take the shots. He’s also a player who will run his heart out (like McClean), got speed (like Campbell) and got strength to win a header (Like vokes). On top of all this he can actually stick a shot into the box and positionally is very aware. Surely this is a lad who can get into a team of spineless bottlejobs In a relegation battle?

No better than the rest of the shit. He's been given an extension to his contract along with Ward .

Cannot for the life of me think why Diouf is not even on the bench, as others have said: he’s fast (for his age) experienced (can ‘sniff’ out scoring opportunities) and - like Joe Allen - he gives 100%. He’s a better bet, now the season has become so critical, than Campbell, Vokes, Gregory or Ince up top, or let him play as a pair? What has he done wrong?? 🤷🏼♂️

Can't be any worse than the utter dross that's played up front this season!

What are we expecting him to do exactly?
He hasn't played for 5 months and has made 20 appearances spanning 2 years.
He has scored 7 goals in his last 50 odd appearances.
Rusty would be an understatement.

I think rusty(at best & being too polite) would be how I would describe our teams last 2 performances to be honest

He's barely featured? Why the extension, is he going play 6 games now? Management is shit.

All it shows in fairness is that neither Ward or Diouf have had any offers for their services, if they had new clubs lines up they wouldn't have made themselves available for the run in and jeopardise their moves.....

He was once our only viable right-back at one stage.
Could we not put him back there and stick Smith on the left and at least get 4 competitive defenders on the field

Why hasn’t he been used in the season generally?
Shown way more than Vokes the few times he’s played and still the best striker on our books.

Heart and effort in abundance and good enough to be starting on the right.
Not the best player but always played with pride: something that was totally missing last night.

I think Diouf, who's a very affable person and immensely popular with the players and the daily staff not to mention most fans, somehow got lost in the office politics. It started with Rowett who was determined to get rid of all the crowd favourites like Mame and Bojan, so the players he signed could become the new heroes and he would seen as Stoke's best manager ever. This theme was picked up by Jones, who played him once as a sub in a game where Diouf clearly wasn't fit, not having played a first team game for several months. That day there was nothing affable about Mame. He was clearly angry and was pretending to be Tom Ince. When the season ended Diouf was banned from training along with Berahino, Imbula et al, as if he was a dope addict or troublemaker. Somehow he stayed on and was fit enough to play a little when O'Neill arrived and was willing to give everyone a chance. He even scored in his first appearance which lasted about five minutes. He was then made to train so he could get match fit, which he did, but by that time O'Neill had fallen for Campbell, Vokes, Gregory, and Powell as his favourite forwards, and Diouf never got another chance, and was more or less given up as his contract was coming to an end anyway. It would not be renewed as O'Neill was looking for space in the squad for new players to come in.
Then there's the little matter of Diouf's wages. He's the only one, or one of the few ones, who are still on PL wages. That's like a red rag to the bulls in the office.

I can’t see why we would extend his contract if ONeil doesn’t plan to get him involved

I can’t see why we would extend his contract if ONeil doesn’t plan to get him involved Out of desperation he might use him as a last resort. Or to have a reserve used to the team tactics, if Powell gets himself sent off again or Vokes or Gregory are injured. Too bad we haven't groomed any of our promising young players for the team, but it's too late now.

I would genuinely play him on the right wing as part of a very defensive back eight, with McClean on the other wing.
