I do think this is the defining game of the season. Lose today or even draw and I can't see us staying up. Win and we have a chance but need others results to go in our favour. What a palace state to be in, how on earth has it been allowed to come to this?

It’s a must win today.
Anything other than 3 points & I think that will us done.
Fingers crossed that this lot somehow manage to string a competent 90 minutes together.

Stating the obvious. Uckin ell I'm nervous. I have little confidence we can get a result. Im sure the oppo have every confidence of getting a result. We can get out of this but it's going to take something from the players and manager that the rest of us dont see. They are capable of it, but do they really believe that are?

Make or break time, if they cannot motivate themselves in this situation then it is the writing on the wall. I am hoping for a 2-0 win I think its make or break time fullstop, lose this and its likely we'd have to win all the remaining games to stand a chance.

First ten minutes will be telling. I just want to see some running, some movement, some effort and people wanting the ball. These players are more than good enough - time to get going again and prove it.
If they make a mistake, win it back and get involved.

The B.B.C. says Messi is fed up at Barcelona? I know just the club he should sign for! 😃 Fucking Barnsley the way things are going!

Must win
Davis Smith Bathh Chester Indi
Thomson Cousins
Diouf Powell Campbell McClean
Subs, Collins, Vokes, Ince, Youth Keeper, Sorensen, Lindsey.
But I think the usual shiters will be there because the managers don't have full control of selection

Why won’t Barnsley be nervous too? It’s massive for them as well and yes, they may be happy with a point but they may also remember the away game. MON has to set up a positive team. Powell is back and I would actually play Diouf for part of the game. Midfield is a conundrum but let’s be tight and defend from the front with players who might feel responsible and accountable. Positive thinking chaps at this crucial time.

I was trying to be positive and put my Stoke Shirt on this morning. Went into the kitchen and the Cat simply fell about laughing!

I'm shitting bricks here and trying to find any positives. All I can find...
It was a good point at Reading. The Warnock factor was bound to hit us. Wigan are the form side in the league.
Everything crossed.

Team for today ; Just go up to Hanley and ask 11 random lads to come to the Bet365 for a kick about. Free beer, fags and 3 lines at half time. Free taxi back to Hanley after the match. Each player will have £50 put behind the bar in the Market Tavern to drown his sorrows after yet another capitulation on the pitch today.
I can not see us winning again this season with this squad.

Today I'm going to break my golden rule of 4 at the back.
Fuck it, we don't have any real decent full backs so let's fuck them off altogether and try to emulate Cruyff's 'Total Football'- just score more than the opposition.
How much different can it be anyway?
------------------ Davies------------------- ------ Collins --- Shawcross ------ Baath --- Ngoy - Sorenson - OakleyBoothe - Clucas - McClean ---------- Campbell ------- Diouf ------------
Subs: Butland, BMI, Cousins, Vokes, Powell
Stoke 5-0 Barnsley.

An absolute must win.
But that is obviously the case for both teams.
I wish I had a shred of hope that the players weren't so totally feckless and could actually hack this scrap, thereby living up to even a fraction of their supposed ability & talent.
Worse than that though, I wish I didn't have the feeling that MoN doesn't know what on earth he is doing after the restart and could compensate for the above with some rock solid man and team management,
It really doesn't look that way though anymore.

Think barnsley will be difficult to break, they're on a good run of 6 clean sheets from 8 games.
Considering the lack of Stoke goals since the league resumed, my worries more about where the goals will come from nevermind the defensive fragilities.
I think if Stoke can take the lead and have something to defend that they could go on to win it. If Barnsley get the first goal though, I can't see Stoke coming from behind to win

I’d go along with this side The way Clucas and Ince performed I wouldn’t even have them on the bench You wouldn't even have Clucas on the bench, but you would have him in the starting 11? No wonder our players are getting mixed messages... haha my bad

In theory there's nothing wrong with 3-5-2 and we have to expect our boys to come full throttle at Barnsley. But in order for the system to work you need to have wingbacks that are defensively savvy. Ngoy isn't and it's been proven many times, painfully, that MClean doesn't have the knowhow when it comes to positioning, marking and applying himself defensively. He may do things in midfield that would suggest he'd be okay, but he's not. Clucas in theory would be a decent left back, but he simply refuses to play there. It may even be written into his contract that he plays in midfield, although I hope not. I like - actually I hate - how you've listed just five subs when we are allowed to have nine, as if to suggest we don't need bothering turning up with the full contigent. No matter how pissed off we are with Powell's antics vs Boro he has to play and everybody needs to set him up to control our game. There's no one else who can.

My team for today:
Butters in goal obviously. Collins RWB, Shawcross CB (for the opening 15 mins), uncle Chester CB, Indi LWB. Diamond in midfield: Clucas DM Ince CM, Cousins CM Sørensen CAM Wimmer and Bauer up front, with the latter running onto balls from target man Kevin Wimmer. When Shawcross gets injured, put Corrigan in at CB to confuse Barnsley furter. Bench: gregory, tymon and some other players as well.

We need two up top now for me, that means Campbell and Vokes.
3-5-2 is a no go IMO. I don't think Diouf will start and I don't want to see McClean as a wingback.
We have to play Powell. Do you dump him in CM in a 4-4-2 or a 4-4-1-1? Next to OB, Sorenson or Clucas? Maybe even as the CF in the 4-4-1-1. That loses the Vokes and Campbell partnership though.
O'Neill has to get this one absolutely bob on. Anything else, questions need to be asked of his judgment. And God help him and the players if we lose.
Fucked if I know!

I know he fucked up last time out but Powell will be key here. Get him, Vokes and Campbell linking up and I can see us winning but the football can’t be half arsed and laboured. Get out of the traps and into them with some tempo.

We obviously need three points, but we also need to drastically improve our goal difference as well.
The situation is so bad it could come down to the odd goal here and there. 😩⛈
