You tend to be when you're recuperating with a broken leg. do you even know why he keeps getting substituted? He keeps pulling his groin. So when every one, including club and hospital doctors, believe he broke his fibula, you have it upon your own good authority that it was just a groin injury...?

All this coaching nonsense does my head in Just because he’s been a good player doesn’t mean he’ll make a good coach Literally every player we had in those first few premiership years should of been offered a role at the club according to this mb and even keeping them because they’d be good to have around the place It’s ludicrous Shawcross isn't just every player and his monkey. He's the club incarnated. You put people in roles on merit not out of misplaced loyalty or sentimentality. Until he proved himself with some coaching badges he’s just a player (notwithstanding legendary stalwart service)

Shawcross isn't just every player and his monkey. He's the club incarnated. Rubbish I don’t agree that Shawcross is somehow destined to manage the club, as that’s a huge leap of imagination when we have close to 0 idea which current players may go on to become managers - but how is it “rubbish” that Shawcross is “the club incarnated”? The word legend gets thrown around like confetti these days, but Shawcross is, unarguably in my eyes, a true Stoke City legend. Name me one player in the last 30 years who is more fitting of that title than Ryan Shawcross? You probably have to go back to the early 80s before you can find a name or two to start a meaningful debate.

He's the club incarnated. He has been the foundation our recent success has been built upon. Also, having come through the system at Manure and rated by Fergie, it wasn’t just the football that was his strength...it’s his strength of character. The game is full of ex pros in coaching roles and whilst I don’t necessarily think he will be a future manager of ours, he should be supported to learn coaching if this is his direction. The manager rates him as a person as well and that’s all that matters. Ryan may well be losing the playing side, but he hasn’t lost his strength of character and ability to act as a role model. He probably knows a bit more about football than most of us on this board as well.

We all love Fuller but I don’t think he’s in Shawcross’ league. It’s just that he scored some wonderful goals so our memories of him are of those moments and then mentals they triggered. The same goes for Mark Stein. In terms of length of service and putting their bodies on the line for the club, neither come close. And then with Stein, his average level (in terms of where we were in the pyramid) was lower than Shawcross’, and I think that is a factor in the argument too. Personally, I’m thinking you have to go all the way back to when Denis Smith was still playing for us to find someone comparable to Shawcross.

He might have a little more say in the matter than any one on this board. He's never stated how long one day is. Not only should he get coaching experience, he should probably get managing experience at lower level clubs, clubs that are lower level than us, though if we continue to plunge further downwards, he might have to get his experience at an upper level club first.

Isnt he out of contract at the end of next season? Let’s hope he’s the 93rd player in the last 5 years who should be offered a coaching role

Peter Coates is 82. By the time Ryan has retired, got the relevant coaching and managerial experience to manage a club of our size there is a fair chance Peter won't be with us, and if he is, he won't be anywhere near the club.

Just go the Lampard way, fail at a lower placed club even with a pick of some of the best youth players in the Prem and then give him the job, done

Many said Delap was finished in the 07/08 season at second tier level.
Ryan is our best centre back by some distance, his last injury was different from his normal back injury. I think we’ll get more out of him yet.

He's going to manage this club at some point so it'd be good to get some coaching experience. But it's way too soon to write him off yet. He may not be the saviour that a number of people have called for him to be, but he's still a good defender. It's unfortunate that his comeback game gets him injured again, but it's a minor problem for now. All this coaching nonsense does my head in Just because he’s been a good player doesn’t mean he’ll make a good coach Literally every player we had in those first few premiership years should of been offered a role at the club according to this mb and even keeping them because they’d be good to have around the place It’s ludicrous Get the point and agree to some extent but I think Ryan has been doing his badges and had a long expressed interest in coaching

What Shawcross has done for this team is 10x what Fuller has done. Both in terms of quality and longevity. Maybe it’s something what comes with being an attacker and not really as much a defender?
