I would say that by bringing awareness of 'black issues' to the forefront we will see a lot of positive change in the next decade as it becomes harder for politicians to ignore these issues. It's not saying that black people are better than white people, or that all black people are perfect, or that white people don't matter or should be discriminated against. Just that the way society has dealt with people who are not white has led to a great ethnic and class divide being drawn across the country, in a way that has benefited those at the top of the system and exploited those at the bottom. So you're going to have a lot more petty criminality and violence, because that's what happens when generational poverty manifests itself. It's a historical trend, and these are the kinds of things people are now fighting against.
In America the protests are already achieving quite a lot, from changing police regulations to defunding police departments so that the money can actually be put into dealing with issues that disproportionately affect black people, like poverty, lack of access to public services, and inadequate education. In this country, the movement has sparked conversations everywhere and pushed people to educate themselves to try and look more critically at society, and understand how things could be made better in the future. It's also not BLM's job to directly improve the lot of those they fight for, because they are not in fact the government. It's to push governments into action after decades of inaction and convenient overlooking and mismanagement of issues that affect minorities.

Don't want my club politicising a Marxist organisation created by the anti-Christ George Soros and Rich white democrats in the states. Peter can afford his left wing principles. I had enough of this sanctimonious man over Brexit .
The business model he has created whilst providing jobs for people in Stoke has created misery in households all over the World. If it had not been him it would have been someone else . However it does not sit comfortably and one day maybe sooner than we think gambling will be banned as cigarettes were in Sport.
It will kill me to listen to Stoke on the radio rather than take my seat of 50 years.... I don't though believe I am the only " supporter " who feels as I do.
The only thing I ever want to see on the shirts of my team are ones that relate to our brave men at war past or present.. What next … I tell you what next --- rainbow socks

Well he was an innocent guy who was murdered by a policeman, and his convictions were in the past and he has since become a father and seemed to be a responsible man who was targeted and then killed unlawfully. And using the term beautiful reinforces the emotion of the situation, one that is felt acutely by many people who fear the same may happen to them.
Also defund the police is a great movement, it's not saying no more laws, just that in America a lot of the times police with guns are called to deal with situations they are not trained to deal with (for example social workers are great at dealing with potentially violent situations because they are trained to, but police officers in America aren't), and American police forces are sort of mini-military units in cities funded far in relative excessive to any other public service. As they say, if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. People feel that maybe the money spent on militarising the people that are meant to perform conflict resolution or public order would be better spent attacking the causes of poverty and crime, like poor access to public services and underfunded schools.

Not really got much thought on it, don't have to applaud if you don't want to. They do I was at the match with one of them a few years back personally it's his choice but the decision was made on the basis of his politics. I haven't watched any of the matches apart from Stoke today but my understanding is that every player was expected to get down on one knee therefore it appears that choice was not an option. Can you imagine the hysteria if a player chose not to go down on one knee and the inquest that would follow? |
