Not sure if this should go on the memorial board or not really.
We have known for a couple of months that the supermarket oatcake brand had purchased highlane, it was obvious as they had changed the recipe or something was off, for years this had been a Sunday tradition, dozen oatcakes take them back home and I made breakfast for me and the current future ex mrs flea79.
Mr Povey, fuck you taking a great thing and turning it into poveys 2.0, everybody has a favourite oatcake shop and this was ours!
Sod BLM and Covid we need a protest against this injustice.
(Other brands of oatcake are available)

Is there still an oatcake shop in Fegg Hayes? They used to do good ones. I agree about Poveys...for me the division is between thin or thick....and it's thin everytime....the proper/ only way to do them. Good example of the importance of detail to locals...if you are not a Stokie , they are probably all the same. A bit like an Italian and al dente pasta.

Due to Lock Down boredom I had a try at making my own using ground down Porridge Oats.
I was amazed at how easy and good they are. You can google the recipe and one mix makes about 12 Oatcakes. 😀⚓️

The ones they sell in the shops and supermarkets are nowhere as nice as fresh from the oatcake shop. They are always too thick and stodgy from the supermarket. Not sure that is something to do with their production or that they just keep swelling if a couple of says old. Castle Oatcakes are my favourite.

The Mrs has been making her own for years using medium ground oatmeal. Not tried the grind your own porridge oats though. My daughter and grand kids love them too.

Tried a couple of oatcake shops recently and not been too impressed although Bucknall oatcakes are 👌 if your not strange and like oatcakes that is😉

I live quite close to six towns oatcakes and they are superb. Thin and light and slightly bigger diameter than average. Considering it's a Polish lass who started it up she's got it bang on, certainly puts Povey's shoe leather oatcakes to shame ( which I grant you isn't difficult ).

(Other brands of oatcake are available) In fairness, Povey's from their shop in Biddulph are much nicer bought fresh than any supplied to superrmarkets. (I assume the recipe for the latter is a bit different?). Although going back a long way (before Povey's) - we always used to call at High Lane Oatcakes after matches at the Vic for ours. They always seemed to have a gooeyness to them that I liked. I think I'm right in saying the owners were Vale fans too?

just as an update somebody has now confirmed the change in the oatcakes is down to a change in process implemented by the supermarket brand, they were previously mixed by hand and now are done by machine which has caused a change, looks like the uproar online has prompted a climb down
