That 'Taxis to Hell..'picture is phenomenally evocative and poignant. Much misfortune befell the Americans at Omaha,including the loss of (all?) their amphibious tanks and a rockert barrage falling short of its intended target and landing on American forces struggling on the the beach/water's edge. Unfortunately the naval barrage prior to the landings was more or less ineffectual.
I saw a very moving report a few years ago where an American veteran, on Omaha beach, met the German Veteran machine gunner who caused most of the carnage. Bought tears to my eyes.
