Now I wouldn’t normally touch gin but my Mrs has been drinking it by the gallon since furlough, mainly rhubarb AND ginger🤮. She did however by a pink grapefruit one last week which she hates, luckily for me it’s the only gin I’ve ever enjoyed. Just have it with standard tonic, any recommendations for a flavoured tonic or stick with the standard? Cheers👍🏻 Russian Wild berry made by schweppes hard to get hold of but very nice indeed especially with lillet blanc.www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p/31219/lillet-blanc-schweppes-russian-wild-berry Sacré bleu, François, a man of great taste --- I thought it was only Crispin who drinks Lillet Blanc! I've used the Whisky Exchange in the past for really good bottles of sth to give as special gifts, eg. Pussers. They're excellent.

I usually get Pussers off Amazon when I buy it, lazy really, I should have a look around, d'you normally get the gunpowder proof or do you have more sense than that?

'Ow kind. Thanks VM indeed, Jeezy. The thing is, I virtually NEVER eat jam! Very occasionally get a bit of a craving for a French-style brekky, with baguette, butter & strawgog jam (usually when we've got a couple of baguettes in), but that's it, really. It's just been all the search for, and discussions about, damsons on 'ere this past few days & realising that having them in jam is unfortunately just about the only way you can get them these days. Down here the new kids on the block are honey berries. Very similar looking to blueberries but much sharper. Hence they make a super not too sweet jam using 1 : 0.66 berries to sugar proportion, a bit less if you like a sharper jam. My son in law started growing them couple of years ago at his pick your own farm in Yealmpton and this year is his first harvest. They have nearly finished this year as they harvest May-June. Scones, Devon clotted cream and honey berry jam.......heaven,and I’m not watching my waist line with all the weight I lost last year with the cancer Yep, nice one, Lawrie I'd never heard of honey berries either, so maybe we could do with a mention of them on the 'Fruit Trees' thread. I'll do it for you when I've got a mo.

Oh, mate, I never drink dark rum myself --- (oh, apart from putting some in home-made Rum & Raisin ice cream) --- the nearest I'd get to it would be Bacardi & Coke, which I imagine all the ma'elots we've got on 'ere would take as sacrilege! (You macho lot! It must be you all being used to a life of all that rum, sodomy an' the lash plus the required weevils in yer bikkies.) Anyway, I digress. The bottle of Pussers I bought was a prezzy for a friend who was ex-RN, so I went for a botttle of 'very aged' stuff at an eye-waterin' 45 smackers!

Excellent! Yep, I've had a huge square bottle of Amaretto in for YEARS! - It was bought for cooking with, and I did use some of it, I think in a mousse or sth similar, but now it must have been at the back of the cupboard since Julius Caesar was a lad..... In fact - 'ang on a minute - yep, just checked, and the label on the back of it is in sesterces. I really like the look of the special champers in the link (thx) but unfortunately am still off the sauce since last August so won't be partaking until normal service is resumed, whenever that may be. More's the pity!

Never heard of Bacardi 151, Eels, so just Gg'd it and apparently it's no longer available - eg. one entry said: 'Bacardi 151 is a discontinued brand of highly alcoholic rum made by Bacardi Limited of Hamilton, Bermuda. It is named for its alcohol proof level of 151, that is, 75.5% alcohol by volume. ... Bacardi 151 was sold in the United States from at least 1963 until 2016, when its production was discontinued.'

Looks like they have some substitutes tho, your ex RN mate might like one www.beersofeurope.co.uk/search?term=151

Lockdown boredom has got me doing and trying quite a few things of late. I thought I would give this a go. Has any body else tried it ? Made two half litres and already it looks good after only 24 hrs. Thought I should leave it for a couple of weeks at least.? Once drained off any tips for the berry’s ? Sorry to revive this old thread but; I have today picked and pleased to report that the Damsons are just about ready. Plenty of recipes on the net, but two ice cream cartons of Damsons is more than enough for about 3litres of gin. Very simple to do and the Sloes should be ready by the mid/end of Sept. Delicious and ready to sip by Christmas. 😕🥳

There's a booze barge down on the canal by the Anderton boat lift this B/H weekend, they are selling Stokie Oatcake gin, and another one doing Pizzas etc. That's tonight's meal out for the Mrs/ sorted

My missus is making some blackberry gin after we went picking blackberries last week. It's her first attempt and it's in the early stages at the moment so I don't know whether it's going to be memorable or just worth chucking straight down the drain.

My old man is a big fan of it, and the jam.
