Inexperience and limitations on full display from Mahmood and Willey respectively. Though Moeen got his sums wrong too, could have easily bowled himself earlier with no real risk with an extra man out. Left Willey bowling an over too many. I get we need to move on, but jesus how badly do we miss Plunkett between overs 10-40? It’s not the end of the world you can’t win em all. Ireland deserve all the credit there Oh absolutely, they were superb and Balbirnie did really well when they were being tonked by Morgan. But it just shows why that first team squad is nigh on impossible to get into. It’s difficult to pick anyone from these games who will get in it in normal circumstances. I also think that’s precisely why Morgan didn’t chance his injury, he looked like a Manager surveying his team 😂

His batting put me in mind of that time Jermaine Pennant came on as a late sub v Everton then ran round like a blue arsed fly that’s been supping scrumpy eventually conceding a penalty at the second attempt. Mo was every bit as frantic. His captaincy mistake in conceding a no ball because hIs field was wrong turned out to be very expensive - 5 runs. 1 run and no wickets ain’t much of a return. Shame.

Could well be something to do with the England shirt, his captaincy of Worcester in the blast last year was superb but I was tearing my hair out a bit tonight. And yeah, he should have gone first ball really. It is indeed a shame.

Willey showed why he’s often the one to miss out when we have a fully available attack to choose from. You get 5 good overs from him at the start but then ideally you need a sixth bowler to pick up his other 5 as he’s completely ineffective after the first powerplay.
Really don’t see why they’re so keen to get Mahmood involved. I keep seeing it’s because of his pace but I don’t think i’ve seen him hit 90mph yet and he’s very limited in his skills.
Surely this is the end for Vince and Ali who look completely shot of confidence.
Well done to Ireland though, a deserved victory.

I’d completely forgotten we were straight back into red ball cricket.
Excellent.
Really looking forward to this series.

I’d completely forgotten we were straight back into red ball cricket. Excellent. Really looking forward to this series. Should be a cracking series. As usual, when I bring up the BBC site (late because I forgot the game started today) a wicket falls immediately. For once, though, it's not England batting. Go Woakes !
Looks like Archer's got a bit of his mojo back too. Good bouncers, great swing to castle Abid. Will the be the series where Archer finally gets some runs with the bat too? Wonder if Broady's giving giving him some advice after his 62 in the last test

Insanity is, apparently, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Our test selection policy is therefore insanity. Because we seem to have decided we are happy not to choose our best keeper who, surprise surprise, drops another catch this afternoon.

That Babar fella looks the real deal.
Enjoyed watching his batting yesterday, and, I suspect, may be enjoying rather more of it today if we continue with the rather lacklustre bowling we had after lunch on day 1.

He was lucky he didn’t nick that beauty from Woakes first ball but he got himself in for half hour or so then started playing really fluently. Mind you some of the absolute pies Bess was bowling it’s hardly surprising he looked in good nick.

That said, it’s more likely that we’ve bowled better so far this morning.

WTF is Root doing opening up the bowling after lunch.
He is fucking clueless at times.

WTF is Root doing opening up the bowling after lunch. He is fucking clueless at times. I agree, he's very rigid in his thinking, especially not good when you are sticking to a bad plan!! They have handed initiative back to Pakistan. Do they really need 4 fresh bowlers for a new ball when the tail is already exposed???? They just had lunch too!! Very poor captaincy.

They’ve given the Pakistani batsmen 5 easy overs to get their eye in, add a few runs and gain some confidence. He should have unleashed Archer to bowl as fast as he can for 3 overs, maybe keep Bess at the other end or let Woakes bowl a couple. Brain dead cricket.

Same as yesterday, come out after lunch serving up dross. We were in a decent position to get in control of this test match but now we're throwing it away again.

You’d struggle to get this many singles with men out in a 50 over game. Very lax stuff.
Pakistan have a fearsome attack, we can’t win the game from here in this innings alone, but we could well lose it.

And now Captain Root has Woakes bowling bouncers.
He should be using Archer if he wants to use that tactic.
He hasn’t even used Archer yet with the second new ball. Instead he’s using Bess.
He is a disaster as skipper.

And Buttler now drops a second catch to go with his missed stumping yesterday.
He’s having a ‘mare.
He should be nowhere near this team.
