From the Telegraph The reinvention of Stuart Broad: How embracing a fuller length has given England veteran a new lease of lifeIf you can go back to older cricket threads on this board you’ll see plenty of frustration about how Stuart Broad had a tendency to bowl short of a length with the new ball - particularly after conceding runs from cover drives. This article demonstrates this superbly showing how until recently he had prioritised economy over wicket taking. Now, after a seeming Damascene conversion, he has become a born again full length bowler and, surprise surprise, he is taking plenty of wickets again. It’s brilliant to see the “new” Stuart Broad. Very frustrating that the combined intellectual effort of the background staff and team mates (especially his captain at that time) allowed him to bowl so ineffectively during his “economy” period. I mean it was bleedin’ obvious what he should have been doing at that time.

And despite that he has more wickets than Jimmy did at the same age yet you could argue Broady doesn't get the same level of respect.

Rain looks like it will clear by 8.00 pm.
So tomorrow is the day.
And a full days play looks likely.

Is there any practical reason why not?

Congratulations to Stuart Broad on getting to 500 Test wickets. Superb effort. I'll be honest there was a 12 month spell a few years back when I thought he'd gone. Since then he's just got better and better, wonderful achievement. Brathwaite the victim for both Anderson and Broad's 500th wicket, nice little quiz question in years to come.....

Like a few top sportsmen he seems to be much better when he feels aggrieved, under appreciated or feels he has a point to prove. It is a bit of a shame that he reached the milestone in an empty stadium. (Would have said in front of one man and his dog, but, there isn't even a dog there. ) It is one hell of an achievement that requires both great talent and extreme durability and he deserved the prolonged standing ovation he would have received in more normal times.

Had Hope decided it was too cold and windy out in the middle and that he wanted to get back to the warmth of the dressing room?
That was a dreadful shot for the situation.

Agree with all of that. The tag about him becoming our "enforcer" back in 2011 (?) nearly destroyed his career and his bowling certainly took a nose-dive for a while as he tried to live up to the short-pitched, bounce-em-out moniker.
Yes he always had a bit of Lillee & Thomson about him - stroppy, stubborn (Jimmy A recently called him the most stubborn bowler he's ever met) and he still is, but he's also a very skillful and accurate bowler.
Pop in the old chin tickler now & then, Broady, but keep on nipping the batsmen out with your seam & swing as you've done so well (again) in more recent years.
Well done sir !

119/9. Shame it's ended like this for West Indies as it's been a really competitive series, they've been awful in the 3rd test though. Well done Chris Woakes on a decent five wicket haul.......

Nice catch to finish it off and a 10 for for Stuart Broad. It has been great to have some proper and at times extremely competitive cricket to watch. It is a shame from a match view that today just felt like the West Indies batsmen took one look at the weather and decided to get back into the warm and give themselves a bit more time to pack for their flight home tomorrow.

A wash out day tomorrow weather wise. We have to hope we can spin through the rest on Tuesday. We will only need 40 overs. Hopefully we get them in 37.5 overs. Not a bad guess

The Pakistan series is going to be a step up and a real tough test. They have a very good recent record against us and in our last 2 home series with them they've both ended in draws.
It'll be very interesting to see what bowling attack we choose, a lot will depend on if Stokes can bowl or not. Personally, I'd bring Crawley back in to strengthen the batting and replace Archer, if any bowler is going to be dropped it should be him for the next match.

I wonder though, based on the past two tests, if Bess will be the one to miss out If we recall Crawley with Root being the man to bowl some off spin if needed - assuming Stokes isn’t fit to bowl. Well, that’s what I would do. If Stokes is fit, we can keep Bess in the team because we don’t need - and should never ever ever ever ever play - 5 seamers!

That angle from round the wicket is deadly. We really are desperate for a good spinner though, ideally a leggy.

Bess is young so is worth persevering with but I'm not convinced he'll be good enough to be a front line spinner we can rely on. I'm looking forward to seeing Naseem Shah, scary to think he's only 17.

Despite West Indies tailing off, well done to them, came over here on reduced money and the series as a whole was very competitive I'd say. Great to see some decent cricket.

England are big on players who can field and are super fit. Imagine Cornwall or Gabriel playing for England? Not a chance
