So the first bit of cricket has been announced today which it’s great news, no crowds I imagine but live test matches will be just what the doctor ordered.

Aggers will be the next one put out to pasture by the ageist BBC no doubt. Soon enough it’ll be Alison Mitchell and Ebony Rainford Brent commentating on the Ashes.

Crickets announced... And then it rains. Doesn't have to be rain. I remember a County Match at Buxton in June, 1975 and the time of Bob Taylor, where Snow stopped play. Derbyshire v Lancashire. Everyone sat on the pavilion steps looking at a white out over the pitch. i2-prod.birminghammail.co.uk/incoming/article9375498.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/JS22137503.jpgCounty cricket between between Derbyshire and Lancashire at Buxton, called off due to snow on 2nd June 1975. Two lonely spectators make their way out of the ground during the snow storm.

My O'Levels started the following week and by Tuesday or Wednesday it was pushing 90 degrees and it was like a sauna in the school gym where we sat the exams. Good old British weather!

Does anyone know if England are carrying any injuries going into the series? I know Rory Burns and Jimmy Anderson has long term injuries, are they now fit? Bearing this in mind, what do we think will be England’s starting 11?

Sorry! I was referencing the team's most recent experience in losing a Test Series in New Zealand. They may not have injuries specifically, but they may certainly have wounded pride.

Bearing this in mind, what do we think will be England’s starting 11? It's a tough one as they currently have a 55 man training squad so whether they'll blood new players or stick with the regulars is debatable. I know Wood is definitely missing, and although Archer and Burns are in the squad I'm not sure they will be match ready. So It will be something like; Crawley Sibley Denly Root Stokes Pope Buttler Woakes Bess Broad Anderson I would blood a few and go with something like: Crawley Sibley Malan Root Stokes Pope Foakes Woakes Broad Mahmood Virdi

Yes I would think they’ll go with the first side you’ve put there. Is Crawley actually an opener? Maybe he could drop to 3 if Burns comes back in as Burns was hitting some decent form before he got injured and Crawley hasn’t really been successful in the handful of games he’s played. I haven’t looked at the averages, no doubt that will debunk my theories🤷🏻♂️. Could really do with looking at some quicks coming through now.

He likes to bat at 3 normally.....

Can’t keep messing about with Denly and Malan surely, both have been OK in patches but nothing more and they’re not getting any younger.

Agreed, also Root will possibly miss a couple of games with his Mrs due so another opportunity there for a younger player although I’d imagine they’ll go “safe” with Denly. Despite Denly not being particularly safe so far.

https://www.instagram.com/tv/CBL-fuglF6o Apologies for bringing politics into this thread, but with the Windies considering whether or not to “ take the knee” before the first test, the above Instagram video is something that is worth watching not just for the exposé of casual racism but the dignity of Darren Sammy in describing his experience and feelings. A reminder also that racism is more than a black / white western problem. Edit - here’s a link to that Instagram post as it doesn’t appear to work that well using the pro boards tool.

I forgot to say also absolute respect for the West Indies for travelling to the UK so that the series can still go ahead, let’s be frank if the Caribbean was in the midst of a Coronavirus crisis the ECB and government wouldn’t be letting out players anywhere near the place.....

They need the money. It’s as simple as that.

They need the money. It’s as simple as that. Actually it's not quite as simple as that. Some of the touring party have had IPL and other lucrative T20 contracts and will be comfortably well off so could have quite easily refused to tour for their own safety. The West Indian board might be skint, but some of the players aren't, so credit to them......
