I thought Tom Hank's film News of the World was a decent watch. I watched it last night on Netflix.

Just finished Tenet 🤔. Also did the big short again this week 👍 Really disappointed with Tenet to be honest. I thought the lead actor was wooden as shit with absolutely no character and the film itself was all over the place, badly edited, very little explanation of key parts and just seemed completely rushed as hell. Bit of a mess all round really. Nowhere near as good as films like Inception, Memento or The Prestige

Almost as if they rushed to get it finished just to have at least 1 blockbuster out at the cinema last year. The worst part for me was the choice of lead though. No character, no warmth so couldn't have any feelings of empathy or support for him. Without having Pattinson (who did have a bit of character) next to him, i think Washington would have struggled to carry that film. No biggie though, not as if Nolan hasn't deservedly already built a very good reputation that this won't tarnish anyway.

Watched The Dig, great film and I echo Spitthedog's comments very engaging and Ralph Fiennes was superb👍
Also watched the cloverfield paradox, not too bad a film
Escape room which I thought was great, it almost got me hyperventilating thinking about the situation at the start!

I think its set up to be watched multiple times to see the full film of that makes sense. I agree about the rush in production, the sound drowns out the dialogue a lot of the time which I hate in films

Have you seen Shutter Island that’s a cracking film. One of my favourite recent films was “Foxcatcher” brilliant acting and based on a true story.

I know this isn't exactly the idea of the OP, but as there was a very lively thread on here about the film 'Stan & Ollie', about Laurel & Hardy, when it was released a couple of years ago and a lot of folks were fans, I thought I'd mention that the film, starring Steve Coogan & John Reilly, is on BBC1 tomorrow evening in case anyone's interested. Here's a trailer:

Shutter Island is brilliant but it's Scorcese, so only to be expected really. Leo and Scorcese are teaming up (again) for Scorcese's new Apple movie being made as well.

There are some excellent films on iPlayer at the moment. Nightcrawler and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas would be my picks: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b05nbsc4/nightcrawlerThe Deer Hunter is on iPlayer too. I've never watched it as the 3-hour running time puts me off.

Films that take you away from shite modern living -
Highly recommend 'The Founder' with Michael Keaton, about the guy who founded McDonald's. Really, really good film.
'The Worlds fastest Indian', with Anthony Hopkins is also superb.
Both solid 8/10s for me.

I've never watched it as the 3-hour running time puts me off. The Deer Hunter is worth every minute. If you really want to, you can probably watch it in three sittings as it does sort of split itself into three chapters.

As a non-Queen fan (so the soundtrack does nothing for me), i had a similar quandry although my confusion was based more on was i impressed by the film or just the staggering looky likey-ness of the cast to the real people. I eventually concluded it must be both, as i don't even like Queen but was gripped anyway.

Watched Stan and Laurel last night and can’t for the life of me understand what the fuss is about, thought it was incredibly boring👀

Whilst i agree personally, it is one of those films you have to be in the mood for before watching, as if you just try to dip in and out of it/watch whilst playing with your phone (because it's so long) then you'll get lost. It's a commitment but one most will be glad they made.

I thought Reilly and Coogan were superb. Having said that though, i have fond memories of them showing Laurel & Hardy regularly back in the early 80s when i was a kid, so i'd imagine some of my enjoyment was based on nostalgia more than anything.
