Not everyone's cup of tea but if you like Grindhouse/biker low budget films, Born Losers is on Amazon Prime Video. Absolutely love it. Low budget stuff but really off beat

Outlaw King on Netflix.
Imagine it as a sequel to Braveheart.

Balloon on iPlayer. True story too I saw that a year or two ago. Somehow a really enjoyable thriller without it particularly standing out in any way. That doesn't sound like an endorsement, but I recommend it too! Films I've enjoyed recently: I Want to Eat Your Pancreas - Japanese anime - a bit sentimental but I don't mind that. Red Sparrow - a good thriller starring Jennifer Lawrence. A bit slow at times and falling short of the best Bond/Bourne/etc, but I hope there's a sequel. Bringing Up Baby - Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant are great in this classic comedy. It was a bit too hectic in parts but still very enjoyable. Twelve Monkeys - probably the best film I've watched recently, and still on iPlayer I think.

Watched Parasite the other night, South Korean film, very, very good. Also recently watched The Sitter, a horror film (think there's a comedy of the same name) set in an old house in the UK, I really wish I'd read the reviews first If you must watch any of it just fast forward to 55 mins, watch for 2 or 3 mins then leave well alone

For those into John le Carre's slow burn espionage stuff, Anton Corbijn's gritty noir take of A Most Wanted Man is on Film4 Monday night.
The reliably excellent and much missed Philip Seymour Hoffman in the lead.
Good film.

mississippi burning - one of my all-time favourite films. watched it again on amazon prime over christmas.
strange to say that a film covering this subject matter is ‘entertaining’ but that’s what it is.
both hackman and defoe are superb, as are the supporting cast (especially brad dourif, who is always effective when portraying unsavoury characters).
brilliant film - highly recommended.

Watched la la la land on BBC I player, it was rubbish. Finally got round to seeing moulin rouge, it was excellent and I am not keen on musicals.
Watched a British horror called attack the block, very underrated film and a superb performance from a young John Boyega.
Old films I love, Angel Heart,Prisoners,Scum,The departed, requiem for a dream and Mulholland drive.

My two favourite films of all time are Heat (DeNiro/Pacino) and JFK. But for those who liked Money Heist (Spanish) on Netflix I can recommend The Inside Man, a very similar genre set in New York. I feel Money Heist borrows many ideas from Inside Man.

Similar time travelling premise, Bruce Willis stars.

I loved a sci-fi film called Coherence I saw recently too - there's a lot of talking if that might put people off, but I love how it started to make sense (or not) as the film went on. I can't leave without recommending Another Earth either - it might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I think those who love it (like me) really love it.

Free solo.
Won the Oscar for best documentary in 2018 and is simply incredible.
Doesn't matter if you're into the subject matter in general or not (i'm not), it's just a staggering thing to watch. Described by some as the greatest athletic achievement in human history.....kinda hard to disagree after seeing it (if you can't be arsed with the whole thing, just skip to 1hr 18 and just watch the "important bit" as that's just unmissable). Utterly beautiful cinematography also.
Thoroughly recommend...although you may feel queasy at various points.

If you like that kind of thing, I recommend a book by Iain Banks called Transition which I think you might enjoy. Not sure if it's been made into a film or not, but it'd have potential to be very good if so.

I don't read many novels (mostly short stories), but that looks interesting so I've added it to the list - thanks. One of my favourite novels, again on a similar theme, is Replay by Ken Grimwood.
