On ITV now I remember watching this game. You forget what football grounds looked like before all seating was enforced.

Was saying to the wife last night that I remember it and that it was a Friday night, why was it Friday? I honestly don’t know mate If I remember cirrectly it was a game that had been postponed because of the aftermath of Hillsborough so was always going to be a night match. They also had to allow reasonable recovery time for Liverpool who had played in the Cup Final the week before. I suspect in the end it was Friday for TV purposes.

It was postponed due to Hillsborough ( should have been a month earlier ) .. played after the FA cup final ..I drove up from Canterbury where I was working for the game
Indeed I went a couple of Liverpool games that season after the disaster ..You had to be a scouser to understand the pulling together the city experienced back then , red and blue ..attending seemed important , the result less so
Celtic away first game after Hillsborough , one of the most emotional games I’ve been too ..
West Ham , night game, when West Ham train was late , and kick off delayed, atmosphere before the game and on the Kop very strange .. applauded West Ham when they eventually turned up on the road end.. people very wary of closing in other peoples space
FA Cup final ..practically all tickets were funnelled back to Merseyside before the day of the game ..a tout less game
And then the Arsenal game ..

Indeed from memory they played West Ham on Tuesday then Arsenal on the Friday, think they played 5 games after the cup final in 16 days as they played catch up ..plus Everton away mid week ( first game back ) prior to the cup final ..closest I’ve got to going over to the dark side

Mate of mine, massive Arsenal fan, went ticketless and paid the turnstile guy £20 to jump over the turnstile. If you look at the Arsenal section it's obvious there is far more in that area than there should have been.
All just weeks after Hillsborough.

Think it was Mark Ward. One chap I knew spent the whole weekend thinking Liverpool had won the league. He watched in The Malbank in Nantwich and left with about 5 mins to go. He was a Spurs fan as well so was quite happy.

Good bit at the end when David O'Leary offers consolation to the loathsome John Aldridge and he rejects it.
Karma for when Aldridge ruffled Brian Laws hair when he scored an own goal in the rearranged semi final v Forest. Showed a total lack of class doing that to a fellow pro. Laws did well not to smack the prick.

Barneso said the biggest mistake of his career was when he tried beat a man and get in the box instead of taking the ball to the corner to kill time. He probably isn't wrong.

This was the first time after 1971 & 1972 that I actually wanted Arsenal to win a.game. Thereafter on our return to the PL I could not bring myself to want Arsenal to win with that man Wenger in charge unless our it was to our benefit. Then they usually messed up!
