Surely the idea of going to university to expand your critical thinking, work on projects with a new line of thought and submit work that is held up to critical scrutiny.
In that respect, having produced a paper on the butterfly effect that has gone viral, this guy's dissertation, regardless of subject matter, has been successful, and he becomes a valuable asset to any future employer.
more people will have seen what he has done, and is more likely to get hired into a job of his choosing and slightly higher than average wages.
therefore job done, a success, tuition fees spent well?

For those moaning about their tax funding this: No-one likes seeing the tax come off their earnings , but most of the population's perception of how much of that money is spent on Higher Education is so far wide of the mark as to be laughable. I could write a thesis on the relationship between how good my life is and the amount of tax I pay. Doesnt seem like an inverse relationship to me.
