None of those were Cartwright's signings. Berahino is Hughes and Hughes only. Imbula looks like his fault too Wimmer...the sky high fee and huge salary you can blame Scholes for. That depends on what Huges said re the price and how big a pleyer he thought he would become for us. I’ve seen more convincing logic from Matt Hancock Your saying Mark Hughes ripped up the process and agreed fee wages and length of contract for berahino . We had our pants pulled down by the seller in a one interested party only auction and they knelt exactly who they were dealing with and nothing gave them more pleasure or confidence Take a look at the Second bidder on Wimmer too .

No I'm just suggesting that the manager may have some input too regards to price, Scholes probably doesn't have a market value for every player in the world so will have to take advice from someone, if Huges said he was worth the money then they're both at fault for the stupid price we paid, as we all know we should have walked away knowing it was a piss take price.

Scholes has backtracked massively on the Wimmer fee in recent years.
Which is hilarious when you look at the quotes from the time we signed him and the fanfare and how great it was to be spending such massive money.
Of course he wasn’t pressed on how much we actually spent on him, which is useful.

He's either been misquoted (given his reluctance to learn English whilst he was here that seems plausible) or has the financial and contractual acumen of Donald Trump. You actually think the interview was in English? More plausible that the Sentinel journo doesn't understand French properly...

Marseille and Porto dwarf Stoke however we provided the Premier League stage. I'm a Stoke fan. It is of course misguided faith but as such I would always regard Stoke as being bigger than most foreign based teams like Marseilles and Porto. Both clubs have played in Champions League finals and have a massive amount of league titles behind them. And when was the last time scfc played in the CL and won the English league…?

Understood and agree Hughes undoubtedly has responsibility but the chief executive can’t take the rewards and not the accountability for what’s happens on his watch was my point , ultimately we agree they screwed up ams interestingly probably the only one who’s not got egg on his face is the much maligned Cartwright who seems not to have wanted many of the problem children .

This isn’t the first time You have talked out of your arse is it. Of course it’s his fault he doesn’t put any effort in not the clubs It's both surely? The warning signs were there with a club selling him so soon after signing him nevermind anything else. That's my point ultimately, I'm obviously not trying to defend Imbula's attitude, to have such an amazing natural ability and to be that lazy, petulant and unwilling (all while earning an eye watering wage) is just so utterly unimaginable. My point is that the blame is left primarily on Imbula and Berahino when for me it's the club's responsibility and failure above all else. It's like choosing to pay massively over the odds for a flashy car from the 70s and then being shocked when it is totally unreliable and breaks down all the time.

As a follow up, I'd only ever suggest buying a player for that amount of money now if we can get a deal with a loan and option to buy.

The fee was Inflated,as was the salary, because Scholes was determined that Tony Pulis wouldn't beat him to the signature. Whatever the original asking price was it was sure as hell significantly less. Spurs must have pissed themselves once Stoke and West Brom went crazy over him. Like a charity auction in some bad sitcom where two idiots who hate each other end up paying vastly over the odds for some crock of shit

Setting aside the bias in favour of my home town team, Marseille and Porto are certainly in a different category. But in accepting that they are such massive clubs, you are suggesting that it is likely that after Marseille and Porto, Imbula already thought that he was making a step down in coming to Stoke, and as such his mind set was already probably wrong before he even started playing for Stoke. My view is that we were a Premier League club which is still a huge thing for players from around the world and many footballers can only dream of reaching the Prem. Imbula should therefore have adjusted and embraced the opportunity.

He absolutely should There's some quotes from Bielsa somewhere about Imbula, something along the lines of he will never be any good after Marseille

It was in all the papers at the time, Albion's (& therefore Pulis) interest in Wimmer was public knowledge. Therefore Spurs got very very lucky as they had two Premier League clubs fighting for him. Of course the price shot up.

Imbula should therefore have adjusted and embraced the opportunity. If his mind set was wrong why did he play exceptionally well when he set foot here? The dream of playing in the PL is obviously yours, not Imbula's. His dream was to play in Marseille, before he knew it he was being shafted around to Portugal and England. He had very little say in the matter. Still he tried to make a go of it, but whatever happened over summer that year made life intolerable for him.

I'm surprised he could find the energy to have thoughts. If Imbula gave any thoughts about you he'd probably say, “I wish that for just one time you could stand inside my shoes, you’d know what a drag it is to see you”

They have both been active on social media or interviews, so you already know what they would say. And, I don't have any insight into the mind of Imbula, I was just quoting Bob Dylan.

It's both surely? The warning signs were there with a club selling him so soon after signing him nevermind anything else. I don’t think it is. I mean after the first half a dozen games or so everyone couldn’t believe how good he was. If you as a club had watch him play those games you would IPO n’t hesitate to sign him. Whether something happened behind the scenes after those games we don’t know but he’s been a lazy shit. The club was absolutely at fault. It’s not like it was a one-off mistake - we were confidently shelling out big money for absolute shitbags, and Imbula was at the top of the steaming pile. You don’t spend 20 million quid without doing some serious research on the acquisition, and the idea of spending that based on watching just a few games is batshit mental. He’s a massive cunt, but how the fuck did we not do some background on him?

What would anyone do? Take the meal ticket of course.

Imbula is a lazy arse who never wanted to be here , likewise berahino and wimmer .
It's true to say the entire blame for spending 50 million quid on these 3 doesn't rest entirely with scholes
But it's rediculous for him to pretend he didn't play a significant role in them arriving here
If he is not involved in the club spending 50 million on players , then why is he chief exec ?
When Stoke spend 50 million on players , the chief exec is involved .The end .

I think the sum total of Imbula's thoughts can be depicted as "££££££zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz".
A waste of some talent not a particularly decent person.
