Steady stream of houses coming onto the market, and prices edging down.
An interesting time to be buying, and I'm in less of a rush than I thought so will wait it out for now, but enjoying having a look around.

Only one workingmens club left now, Berryhill, there was 4 when I was a kid along with a load of pubs, it's the closest club to Waverton that's the one still open, might be the one you went to? Just googled images and it's definitely that one. Must be pushing 20 years since i went there but I have fond memories of going to that place. Well if you're ever in the area and fancy a visit drop me a pm and I'll buy you a pint, I don't go in often but the guy that runs it is a mate (and a big Stokie) and I know a couple of the regulars, they'll probably remember your Grandad.

I like Trent Vale, my Grandparents and an Uncle lived there when I was a kid, we used to visit every Sunday. Only a shortish walk into Stoke where there's plenty of pubs, is the Jubilee Club on London Rd still open? We (my Dad and me) used to fetch my Uncle out of there at 3 in the morning on a Sunday and go fishing with him The only thing wrong with Trent Vale is, like you say, lack of decent pubs. It’s a fair old zig zag to Stoke, Penkhull and Hartshill from there. I’d still sway to Hartshill/Penkhull no pun intended but Trent Vale is a decent enough shout depending on what’s more important. All about the pubs me😏 Muggles, when it comes to food shopping, if you want a supermarket Trent Vale has got a 24 hr (or at least it was before the virus/lockdown, etc.) Tezzers which isn't frighteningly enormous like the Longton and Meir Tezzers or Sainos in Newcastle. They're so gigantic I get an attack of the heebie-jeebies every time I go in there.

Was out to get some rolls for breakfast this morning with a bit of a hangover and was thinking a shop (not necessarily a big one) in walking distance is a must. Takeaways too - on that note, anyone got any recommendations of best chippies or kebab shops in S-O-T?

Hartshill boasts the following as far as I know: 2 x chippys 2 x kebab shops 3 x Indians 1 x Co Op 1 x Tesco Petrol Station 2 x Sandwich Shops 1 x Butchers At least 8 pubs More barbers and hairdressers than you can shake a stick at Also and easy walk to Penkhull, Stoke and Castle where much more of the above awaits!!!😉

You'll be too late if you don't get a wriggle on, you might end up eating it outside unless you've got some big fans to get rid of the smell

Quiet area with friendly locals. Within spitting distance of the stadium, staggering walking distance to quite a few decent local pubs ( plus Stoke town centre is a five minute stroll down the road). Train station is just down the road too. Shops are a sore point, we have a large Sainsburys, a Lidl and some smaller shops but ever since the dicks in the the council decided Hanley is the City Centre all funds are directed there and so that's where all the main shops are. We do have the best oatcake shop in the entire Potteries though. If you cycle then we have great access to the canal towpath system, so getting around by bike is a doddle. Best oatcake shop in the entire potteries? Where I need to know. I’ve been under the mistaken belief that was in High Lane, Chell. BM The one in an end terrace house in Fegg Hayes was very good, I don't think the terraces are still there, but it may have moved nearby.

Very much dependant on the establishment - a quality kebab can be enjoyed at smh time, while a ropey one is only for emergency situations of extreme inebriation.

Really appreciate the suggestions everyone.
Can't abide poor quality takeaways, but support the good ones more than I should.
A taxi driver recommended one between Cobridge and Burslem which I can't remember as was half canned. Wasn't Istanbul, which I've been to before.
Bakes its own fresh naan which should be the norm, but sadly isn't. Any ideas?

Milehouse Chippy is exceptional - used to go there for dinner every Friday when I worked in Chesterton (that'd be about 8 years ago now mind, so not sure if it's faltered in that time). Also a big fan of Venus Fish Bar in Hanley (just down from The Coachmakers Arms). Milton Chippy (in Milton funnily enough) is banging too.
