Fair play to him for resigning although I'd imagine he's not short of a few quid?

Always strikes me as a very decent fella does Nigel. I met him via a friend as he returned for his 2nd stint at burton and he sat and talked football for ages. Spoke glowingly of stoke city as well which helps

I enjoyed his refreshing honesty about the 9-0 at Man City. He was glad that City carried on at full pelt as he didn't want sympathy or to be patronised.
Didn't work out at Sheff United but until Wilder he was in a big list of failure. Had a good career and it's really sad to read the situation but also very magnanimous of him

Sorry to Nigel and his back room staff go. He took Burton from the second tier of non league to the brink of the football league, and took them into the championship on his return to the job. I’d say Burton were the smallest club to reach the second tier, and were desperately unlucky to get relegated after two seasons there. Chairman Ben Robinson is a realistic man and it must have been hard to part with Nigel to help save the club effectively. I wish new boss Jake Buxton all the best. A genuinely nice football club and set of supporters.

Great side in the 70's. All that sort of stuff.

Waddo took Brian under his wing a bit at one point didn’t he, so not surprising a good impression was passed down.

Waddo took Mr. Clough (after he'd been sacked by dirty leeds,I think) on our away trip to Amsterdam. What a trip that was with the half-way house on ⚓ Rd.

Was he a good player or not? I could never decide. Brian Clough had a principle that midfielders had to pass then move. It's quirky how Nige used to pass and then be a bit rigid. This was the era when extreme fitness became a necessity too so he got a bit left behind. Martin Peters was ahead of his time, Nige was behind his time. But a good player all the same.

I think the added pressure of having a successful dad, be it as a player or manager, adds extra pressure on players. It must be hard as the expectation, rightly or wrongly, is that the kid will be as successful as the dad and they rarely are.

Was he a good player or not? I could never decide. Decent'ish player. But he could never fill his dad's boots. I had the good fortune to see his dad play a number of times. He was a proper goal machine for Middlesborough and then S'land. Nigel is a lovely lad and a credit to his dad. He carried on the good name of the Clough family (yes, I know old Cloughie blotted his page with his addiction to alcohol, but on the whole he was a good bloke) without being controversial. Nigel stepping down to help Burton out is typical of the lad. He'll soon get another job when this virus stuff is over (if not before) so I wish him well. OS.
