www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p08dh3jcQuite an interesting interview with Luke Chadwick, Nick Hancock and Jason Lee about the media attention that Chadwick suffered in the past for his looks.

Remember the chanting Millwall at the time, funny then. Not so much now in these enlightened times. Always tried his best at Stoke I felt.

Some human beings are utter wankers how they ridicule people for their appearance
We see it on here on a regular basis and they justify it by it being “ only a laugh “ or calling the ones trying to point out that it’s not funny as snowflakes
The media fuel the fire also
Like I say ....All utter wankers

However, when he missed that penalty against Hull (I think) with what was arguably one of the tamest most pathetic attempts you could wish to see, I did reference "ugly" in the stream of expletives that I came out with. We missed 2 penalties in that game I'm sure.

Also felt it was a great response by Nick Hancock. It was certainly unusual seeing a heartfelt and fulsome apology wasn't it. They're very much out of fashion these days.

Although you don't know how these things affect different people and it's not nice but as someone who had bucked teeth and big ears as a youth I endured years of ridicule, often two lads at school would play tug of war with me( they had an ear each) and I have to say it didn't have any long lasting effect on me just as kids get called fatty and ginger nut I suppose.

If there was no audio I wouldn't have recognised Chadwick at all. He looks completely different than when he played.
I wonder if the ridiculing has formed part of that, with the shaved hair probably being down to losing a bit on top obviously, and I should know as that is coming a bit too close to home for comfort!

Dave,
You are spot on about that missed penalty. It was against Hull. We ended up losing 0-3. A certain Jon Parkin had an excellent game for Hull. I seem to remember we had a load of chances including the 2 penalties. The first, in the first half was put wide by Gallacher.
The Chadwick one was second half in front of the Boothen. It was funny in retrospect and I was hoping that Nick Hancock would mention it, but I suppose it would have been ill advised in the context.
As I remember, the first half miss was Gallacher's second in recent times. Chadwick grabbed hold of the ball the a determined air, stomped to the spot and gave every impression that he was going to twat it one - perhaps it was an attempt at a double bluff, but what he actually did was prod the ball towards the goal line with all the strength of an astmatic ant. Myhill, their keeper who was once on our books, and the same keeper who put it out for a corner at the height of Rory's throws, had to stretch back OUT of his dive toward the corner of the goal to save it on one knee in the middle of the net.
I'm sure I could see his shoulders going as he must've killed himself laughing!
I thought Nick Hancock spoke well. That's what an apology sounds like. We hear them in real life, but we don't here them on any media. It's usually something like "I'm sorry if you were offended"- in other words it's your fault- Copyright- Priti Patel.

What's up with their speech? No idea about Scholes. There’s a misconception amongst some on here that Rowett has a speech impediment because he says fink instead of think, but it’s not uncommon for a lot of people to talk that way. It’s not an impediment.

People don't take responisbility like that any more. A few Politicians should take note. I'm not sure Lineker's apology has quite the depth of Hancock's!

Most of us have had our appearance routinely mocked by famous celebrities to an audience of millions every week at the age of 19? No we get it worse to our face. Or physically attacked for it. Right, which is terrible, but it's the huge, relentless national exposure of it that make Chadwick and Jason Lee's cases noteworthy isn't it. And I'm sure they got more of it to their face than most too. I thought it was quite enlightening. And as said above, a mature and candid response from Hancock, even if he did choose to deliver it in his pyjamas from the stairwell of a beer cellar.

I don't think comedy shows like TTIAO have to be whiter than white but looking back a joke about the same peron being ugly every week for 5 years was perhaps a bit indefensible!
