Not sure if I'm in a minority or not, but I have to say, it's one of the wankest films I've ever seen

One thing they did manage was to make the Gascoigne character equally as annoying and unfunny as the genuine one.

You have to be a proper miserable bastard not to like that film I reckon. I bloody love the Ronnie Eckhart character, just trying to sell everyone motors

You see quite a lot of rivals.net in that film, printed on the mock sponsor boards in the background.
They were doing well when it came out in 2001 before the whole network collapsed and the Oatcake moved to Proboards

How did they get Pele to appear on that? He strikes me as someone who'd do anything for a cash? Such a good film.

I think Mike Bassett is very very loosely based on Graham Taylor ...small town , small club manager on the big time international stage .
I like Graham Taylor ,who lets face it achieved a lot at Watford , but I could definitely imagine him having a mental like that , with England 2 nil down to Mexico at half time . Followed by England going out for the second half and losing 4 nil .

Gotta say that yesterday was the first time I'd seen the film, I thought it was pretty funny. First time I’ve seen it as well, was better then I expected it to be. The rant at half time about going 2-0 down to the fucking Mexicans was brilliant. "England lose 4-0" He did that scene unscripted as well and just came out with stuff which makes it even better.

How did they get Pele to appear on that? Let's not forget the Cosmos convinced him to sign. They were literally a non league club playing on wasteland but paid him what he wanted. They actually had to paint the soil green on the pitch on his debut and clear rubbish and glass away before kick off.

I think the 'Xmas pudding formation' was a glaring omission from Jonathan Wilson's seminal history of the evolution of football tactics 'Inverting The Pyramid...'

I love the film not seen it for ages. Think it was cut for tv. Im sure benson and hedges had actors and were seen warmimg up. Love the handball against argentina. To quote keegan. I would love it , for that to happen in real life againt argentina and they be knocked out. Only just forgiven maradonna for it. Must admit it wasnt the goal itself. Just the fact he never admitted it until recently.
