It'll just be filled with Man Utd, Liverpool & the like. Beckham v Wimbledon. Rooney's off-his-shin overhead kick. Saurez I can vaugley remember hitting one from 30-odd yards out infront of the Kop, so that will more than likely be in there. Bergkamp v 'Castle. They'll nodoubt shoehorn in a goal from Gerard. Henry v Man Utd I think it was, clock end. Van Persie at Charlton. Cantona v Sunderland, the little dink. One of the two everyone can remember from Tony Yeboah. Haven't got a Chelsea goal yet so we need to cramb one of them in, Zola's backheel is the first that comes to mind. Load of big club shit. They wont be featuring any great goals from the unimportant teams. Henry v Man Utd for me. He wasn’t even looking, but knew exactly what he would do and where he’d stick it before the ball came to him.

Doubt if it will have even a sniff of a chance amongst all the other overheads scored by high profile players, but this is a cracker:

If I remember correctly the Arsenal fans had a social media campaign to out vote the Crouch goal and a Arsenal goal won it much to the embarrassment of messrs Linekar and Shearer. A goal that rarely gets talked about, which I think was superb, was Rickardo against W Ham away around the 2nd/3rd season in the Prem. It won’t be on the list but if you don’t recall it try to find it on U Tube. 😀⚓️ I think it was a midweek game and I watched in my local pub. My mate a Liverpool ST holder said” If that had been Messi or Renaldo they would be showing it on Sky Sports for the next ten years” Quite a compliment⚓️

Difficult to keep quiet when that goal went in!

Trevor Sinclair’s overhead was the best overhead, was virtually outside the box

Beckham's will be one of the favourites to win it. Definitely top five anyway. Rooney's overhead will be right up there, and Bergkamp's against Newcastle - both rightly so. Di Canio's really wasn't all that special imo. Adam’s is better. Rooney’s overhead shinner was a good shinner. One of my favourite maybe not best PL goad was Tony Yeboah. No idea who it was against but a brilliant goal. Yeah I just meant Beckham's is what they'll choose. There's not a lot between them really but the one thing that just slightly take's the sheen off Charlie's [Charlie's sheen? ] is that Courtois got a hand to it, whereas Becks' flew straight in. Adam further out though. Re Rooney, no way he shinned it

I might being dramatic but when it happened it felt seismic almost but I wouldn't have been older than 12 at the time (no idea when it was) so I'd never seen anything like that before. But Adam's in terms of everything really was better imo. Massive shin!

Didn’t get goal of the month never mind season. Joke. It did get goal of the month Yep, you have to win Goal of the month to be in goal of the season. I thought the Arsenal hijack vote thing was for Wilshere to win with what was basically a decent long range goal, not the same season as Crouch. Lineker's face when it won said it all.

If MoTD had any sense (it has little) it would have a section on howitzers, lobs, hit and hopes, bullets, benders, swerves, penalties, teckers, flukes, team goals with a dozen passes en-route the onion bag and miscellaneous, allowing more teams to be acknowledged, and a broader palette celebrating "Top Flight" English football. But what will happen is the self anointed masters of football knowledge will simply talk over a pre-conceived shortlist focusing on a reach around of the Top Six Clubs and then Gary will say 'ooh this will have them arguing in the provinces' and 'I'd stay off Twitter if I were you, Alan, LOLZ" etc.
Shorter version - as if you can the best shot from outside the eighteen yard box. It's nonsense to even try.

This is one of those weird myths that just catch on and become semi-received knowledge like Ramsey's foot got stuck in the turf and Kenwyne missed a sitter at Wembley imo of course

Ramsey's foot definitely didn't and it was a sitter, he should have buried it

didnt he. My memory must desert me Still the best goal I’ve seen in the premier league. Other great goals such as Bergkamps, Rooney’s bicycle kick and Di Canio’s deserve to be there too Papiss Cisse scored with a flukey wallop from miles out at the end of the season. Looked good but even he admitted it was a complete hit-and-hope that happened to curl in the top corner. Not in the same stratosphere as Crouchy's technique-wise. But there you go. The choice between Crouch and Cisse for that month fell to one Alan Shearer, the Newcastle fan. It still annoys me far more than it should. Written out of MotD goal of the month history by bias, never mind goal of the season.

This wasn't a bad effort,unfortunately... Bloody fantastic goal. Never gets the plaudits it deserves. I remember turning to talk to the guy next to me as the ball went dead, then looked up and the Wigan fans were celebrating. I was totally confused as to what had happened, like I’d blacked out and missed a portion of play. You’re right though, great goal - if that’s Trent Alexander Arnold v Man Utd, it would be on a loop on Sky for years.

I remember the MOTD analysis criticising Rory (and a few others?) for turning his back on the ball and not trying to delay the taking of the kick, and thinking, "Yes because everybody shoots from there, don't they...." Brilliant piece of quick thinking, but not as good as Charlie's 😉

Tony Yeboah's for Leeds is a favourite of mine! Wasn't it the Charlie Adam strike from his own half at Chelsea that should have been Goal of the Season, but somehow the Arsenal lot got that days goal of theirs into the frame. Ten minutes after the programme nobody could remember anything much about the Arsenal "goal" which was some lucky rebound tippy tappy stuff in front of goal by players who didn't want the ball. Could you describe the Arsenal goal now, whereas Charlie's you can see in your head.

Definitive Report:
2014–15 Goal of the Season controversy
On 24 May 2015, the final day of the 2014–15 season, Match of the Day held an online vote at around 11 pm GMT for the Goal of the Season award. Users were able to vote via the BBC website or Twitter. The poll was quickly skewed by Arsenal supporters, many from the Far East, resulting in Jack Wilshere winning the award for his final day strike against West Bromwich Albion, despite not being the favourite. Host Gary Lineker expressed surprise as he read out the winner, and pundit Alan Shearer suggested that Charlie Adam should have won the award for his 66-yard effort against Chelsea, while fellow pundit Danny Murphy felt former Fulham teammate Bobby Zamora should have won.
The incident was labelled a "shambles" by Pete Smith of The Stoke Sentine who also thought Stoke's Adam should have won, and a "concerted campaign by Arsenal fans" by Alan Pattullo of The Scotsman, who also felt the Scottish midfielder was deserving of the award. Mark Brus, of Caught Offside, also criticized the choice arguing that a goal in a meaningless game should not have won Goal of the Season and that Juan Mata's acrobatic effort against Liverpool was worthy of the award.
The following season, before the final episode of that season's Match of the Day, the programme's producers changed the rules to prevent a similar situation. The Goal of the Season award has since been decided by the pundits on the show, who will choose the winner based on the top three goals voted for by the public.
