......rare facts, influences and impact. ...so many led eventful lives, many dying young. Barry White Barry White, a great, smooth soul singer in my opinion. Suffered from diabetes and died relatively young at 58. 9 children, extremely high blood pressure, a stroke, kidney dialysis. Went to prison where he becomes another person influenced by Elvis. www.smoothradio.com/features/5-little-known-facts-the-life-of-barry-white/

I went to a funeral last year at Bradwell Crem they were standing in the aisles and across the back. When The first, the last was placed it wasn't far short of dancing in the aisles.
Poor Barry he never looked well carrying all that weight. On that subject have you managed to slim down yourself yet Aaron?

Funnily enough, Marvin, your replying to my post made me recall Marvin Gaye....(unless it was the gay bit?) When I spoke to you , prior to us meeting I was actually just over 25 stone ( 27 stone 8 lb to be exact) but I went on a strict diet before we met up. Marvin Gaye.... shot by his father, a church minister, when aged 44.... Marvin Gaye's father was an American Pentecostal minister. Gaye senior did "unusual" things , for a "Christian" He married his wife, Alberta Cooper, in 1935. Alberta already had a son named Michael, but after saying he couldn't raise another man's son, Gay sent Michael to live with his sister-in-law.

Mary Wells , my Guy ( written and produced by Smokey Robinson), had meningitis , TB, was partially deaf in one ear, and partially blind, suffered from TB , was a cleaner before she was "discovered", attempted suicide twice...but died of cancer at 49, bankrupt.
.........from wikipedia In 1990, Wells recorded an album for Ian Levine's Motorcity Records,[1] but her voice began to fail, causing the singer to visit a local hospital. Doctors diagnosed Wells with laryngeal cancer.[3] Treatments for the disease ravaged her voice, forcing her to quit her music career. Since she had no health insurance, her illness wiped out her finances, forcing her to sell her home.

I remember a story re Norman Greenbaum. One hit wonder in the UK, had a second minor hit in the USA and when Dr and The Medics had a hit with 'Spirit in the Sky' he was owed huge royalties and was found pumping gas in some remote town.

Orrrr... Yes, whilst he was, a one hit wonder in the UK (another great Christian song written by a Jew) he had another few hits in the States, including, a very bit hit (The Eggplant that ate Chicago) under an assumed name. Far from hard to track down, he was a long term resident of the town where he lived, the site of the motor accident that nearly killed him. Two others did die in that incident. Upon his rehabilitations he returned to performing.
