Looks like they have issued you the handling fee and not that of the airline tickets they pay on to the airline. I think Lastminute argued recently that they hadn't been refunded by many airlines in some cases and so couldn't refund the actual ticket prices yet which they pay on to the airline involved. They have had a refund from Lufthansa because I spoke to them and they emailed me. Online lastminute had a section on my booking that had updates regarding my "refund" and they has waiting for airline to refund. This was at this stage for 6months or more so I called Lufthansa and they told me on the phone and in an email that they had refunded the booking agent. So I went back to lastminute and for months I was unable to make contact via phone as it just took me through an automated system then cut me off after telling me they were waiting for my money from the airline. This went on for ages before once again I tried and I spoke to a customer care advisor who told me they were waiting for Lufthansa. I then told this lady that I have an email and first hand conversation that you already have my money from the airline. Awkward silence then she tells me she doesn't know that. I then a few weeks later a email from lastminute informing me that they will refund me £209 which is minus admin. So I once again phone and they just point blank refuse to refund the full amount because in the T&C they can charge I handling fee. I argue they refuse. I then received a notification that they will refund me £129 within 5 working days and they did. Goodness knows where that amount came from from a start €300 (£275) they tell me £209 and eventually refund me £129. I made the booking in July 2020 refund May 2021. It seems from their social media I'm not alone in fact they turned off comment on their Facebook page as it was spammed with accusations and memes of thieves etc. My other half works for Emirates and she says that Lastminute allegedly holding somewhere between 5-7 million pounds in refunded money that they they are holding on to as much as they can and drip feeding refunds to people.

I can believe it mate I kind of understand they are trying to protect their business from going under but the damage its doing to their brand in the long run will have a lasting effect on them too, they've lost me as a customer and like I've said their Facebook page was decimated by complaints and accusations to such an extent they've turned off comments. I saw thousands of disgruntled people calling them theives.

Have never used them to be honest as never found them to be particularly cheap in where looking to travel but believe are more of a weekend deal company . Looks like they missed a deadline to refund customers which can't be good. Personally I would have taken vouchers if offered as with any non airline travel company at the moment. I can understand their stance at the minute but no good to those owed money

I'm fortunate that I can take the financial hit although I'm still furious and will never use them again.

They pay the flight fee etc to the airlines and about 40% is their booking fee. Good luck with them, if booking outside of Emirates I always use Expedia these days as found them to be spot on with refunds etc or changes. Ryanair as you say have been praised highly during Covid , they do get stick but you get what you pay for with them flight quality wise and they are efficient.

We're looking to go on holiday late August. We were due to be renewing our wedding vows abroad, as its a big anniversary - but have shelved that after all of the uncertainty of the last 18 months..and we'll come back to that.
I still want to do something 'different' in late August. I have to admit I'm a bit uncertain regarding 'all' of the things I need to consider. So far on my ticklist I have got;
Go through a reputable agent (looking at TUI)
Pay with Credit Card
Get decent Travel Insurance
We'll both have had 2x vaccines by the time we go
Assume that by 20th August Boris' lifting of restrictions allow us to go
Travel restrictions at the destination are reviewed on 30th June (my assumption here is that if they don't get lifted, then we won't be going anyway, and would get a refund or credit)
I'm just nervous about taking the plunge with so many question marks all over the place...but don't want to get a 'green light' that late, that our options are limited.
Any advice appreciated 👍
