I guess a lot will depend on who owns their grounds for clubs at this level?
The majority will be able to offload players pretty easily and keep costs way down but the ground rent will be the big one.

The bubble is beginning to burst. The lower down you are more you will suffer though. Great shame.

The story suggests that the owners of the ground have been unwilling to reach any significant agreement with the club to ease their immediate plight. I hope if the owner sees this as a chance to make a few ÂŁmillion by selling the ground for development, he is disappointed.

It's a massive shame for Rhyl, a genuinely big Welsh club who I believe after Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham have the largest following in Wales. I expect they'll resurrect themselves and start from the bottom again, perhaps by even re-entering the English pyramid system as opposed to the League of Wales. The main reason they're in this predicament is because of the landlord refusing to sell the ground and won't give then linger than a rolling one year lease as tenants, so with so much uncertainty they've been unable to progress with investors who wanted to takeover the club.
The landlord has refused to even respond to any contact from the club for months with regards trying to strike a deal, the issue he has if he decides he wants to build houses on the site of the ground is that there was caveat from the council when he purchased the ground years ago that it can only be used for sporting events, so he's equally as screwed as the ground will now lie dormant

My own home town of Northwich being a case in point. Football needs a serious look at how they can better protect these clubs. Football is diminished when we lose the likes of Rhyl.

Rhyl in Champions League, season 2004-2005! *edit.
The only thing I remember about the place was all the jellyfish in the beach sand.
*And in 2009-2010. Played Partizan Belgrade. Thats 2 more Champions League ties than Stoke have achieved!

Rhyl will be the first of many. Maybe football does need a reset but my fear is we will be left with an American style closed shop super league system with maybe only 30 odd clubs owned by the super rich.

Big shame.
Wont they be able to rise from the ashes though in the future? Maybe a chance for a new org structure in future similar to Germany. Give 51% to fans at the start up with a low investment needed. It seems they only needed 175k to continue operating.
I would like the government to seriously look into fan ownership given the current economic problems. It would also stop idiot Premier League players claiming they dont want to deduct wages to make the owner richer. When fans are the owners you will get different responses from players - look at the Bundesliga and how many teams have negotiated a serious wage reduction with no problems.

What did they need 175k for? It said on the article thats what they needed. Not a huge amount in normal football terms. Looking to buy a club Bayern? You can test your management theories out in the Welsh league Lets all chip in and rename them Stoke-on-Rhyl

I guess it depends what contracts the players have. And a lot of semi pro clubs will be ok with that I would have thought, not many are contracted are they? If it comes with a caravan by the sea I'm there.....

Quick question though, why does a tiny, amateur club need 175K? Seems a very large amount.

Couldn't Stoke chip in and buy Rhyl as a sort of feeder club. We could have a huge number of home grown players to develop. Not actually Stoke born, but certainly conceived by Stokies on their annual holiday by the sea!
