Nothing controversial in what he has said, nothing that will have upset the manager. Non story.

Banksy wrote in his autobiography that the most technically demanding position is centre back, which nèds a player capable of reading the game, great awareness, and intuitive ability to anticipate the oppositions play.
That all suggests to me that a successful CB needs to be quite astute, dare I say intelligent.
Questioning policy shows a degree of enquiring mind, going public about it shows a degree of stupidity.

He's clearly just been asked what he thinks of the training and all he's really said is he doesn't like it, nothing in it.

He has, that doesn't mean overall he hasn't been okay, tbh I don't think he should have been thrown straight in, I though Lindsay was getting better and looking solid.

He doesn't seem to like training, I can see why he looked off the pace in every game he played.

Lindsay was still making daft errors too and went from looking like a pub player to Conference North. Still better than Danny Batth mind.

I imagine a lot of footballers don’t like running. I play football myself , obviously no where near the same standard and don’t like running. He’s just being honest- perhaps too honest in this day in age with how stories are twisted and people like to be offended so easily.

Centre backs more than any other position have to read the game. The bad ones aren't generally short on physical strength or bravery they just get done by not seeing the danger.

Does anybody know why every fucking link someone posts on this site, and it's only on the Oatcake, won't open and causes my uBlock Origin to give me this redirect warning?

There's another thread at the moment reliving games against Tottenham in the 70's. Alan Dodd is wearing the number 5 shirt for Stoke, a real favourite of mine and criminally undervalued, his reading of the game was second to none. It's just a shame he was at his peak when Denis and Bluto were as well, personally I think he was better than both of them.

I can remember watching Alan Dodd playing one of his first games in the reserves in a Central League match one evening. After the game I went in the bar at the corner of the Boothen Stand/Boothen End stand and was sat drinking with Frank Mountford. He was spitting feathers because he had a very high opinion of young Doddy, who was still a teenager, but Waddington was saying he thought they had made a mistake signing him. Chester has struggled because he has not had regular football. Wimmer totally lost his ability to read the game sat on the bench for a year with Spurs. Match fitness isn't just about physical fitness, it is also about being mentally "switched on", which is particularly important for a CB. They are normally big guys and they are not suited to quick reactions, so they need to be aware and anticipate what the opposing players are about to do. In his first book Crouch talked about how for years as he young player he was outwitted by experienced CBs, until he learnt his trade.

In fact you don't lose it at all. Wimmer's problem wasn't reading the game, it was keeping up with the text as the words and paragraphs went whizzing past him at twice the speed he could turn the pages. Incidentally this thread might be a record for me because aside from the above, I agree with almost every single post.
