I'm gutted. Obviously Fountains of Wayne are most famous for Stacy's Mom, but they had loads of pop classics before then, and since. I spent many a summer listening to their Utopia Parkway album. They were great at pastiches of other bands too. Stacy's Mom is a great rip-off of The Cars. Elevator Up and Supercollider are fantastic Oasis impressions - they'd be up with my favourite Oasis songs if they were Oasis songs. My username came from their song, Radiation Vibe. It's a song with a ridiculous chorus, but it somehow works. I'd go as far as saying it's one of the best choruses ever. Though it's not actually one of my favourite Fountains of Wayne songs, and they wrote it for a laugh. Troubled Times seems a prescient song right now: “Maybe one day soon it will all come out How you dream about each other sometimes With the memory of how you once gave up But you made it through the troubled times.” Schlesinger also wrote the excellent soundtrack to That Thing You Do, amongst others: I also liked one of his other bands, Ivy (who couldn't be much more different to FoW):

I had a couple of their albums (Interstate....and Traffic and Weather). Wasn't aware of Ivy so will dig deeper for that.

I wasn't a fan of Traffic and Weather (though "Someone to Love" is a great tune). Their last album, Sky Full of Holes, was good though. Chris Collingwood, the other songwriter, released a very good album as Look Park a couple of years ago, which is very FoW-esque. Here's Katy Perry covering Hackensack:
