I remember the euphoriaria I felt leaving the Blyth Spartans game, let alone the holocaust season, and the 2 - 5 vs Man City. Coates, why don't you just do one and get the F out of here!

I think it was because on balance, he'd done an incredible job but towards the end of his reign the board became less and less enamoured with the directio oh look this thread is in the bin

coates has ruined our club for me. made all the wrong moves since 2013. A few days ago you were claiming that Hughes had ruined the club. Make yer mind up.
Pulis was sacked because he came as close as close could be to getting us relegated. Hughes then took over and we saw a Stoke team playing like nothing that we had seen since our great Waddo days. If someone was to argue that with me - I might agree that Hughes' team was better (unlikely but possible).
Does that answer your question?

Technically, he wasn't sacked. Hughes, Rowett and Jones were all sacked. Pulis was mutually consented.

A 13th place finish in the Prem wouldn't get you the sack now but we were striving for the mystical 'next level'.
In fairness we got it too, the top half Prem finishes and some of the football played in Hughes first 3 seasons were simply outstanding.

Looks like old VT has learned how to use a Computer. Has to be a wum, we're going to get loads of these once the boredom really sets in. He's started 3 threads in a couple of days all saying pretty much the same thing and all looking like they were written by a 5 year old. Can't wait for the next one 😕

In my opinion Coates got rid of Tony at exactly the right time! Tony did a fantastic job at Stoke, but as most managers he seemed to be running out of steam at the end. I'm sure Tony could hav kept us up for more seasons to come, but we would never have experienced the football and the players we had under Hughes in his 3 first seasons. Hughes inherited a core of true professionals that would do anything asked of them, and with the flair players Hughes brought in we saw a wonderful mix. Unfortunately Hughes wasn't able to see how lucky he was to inherit such a squad of strong charcters, and didn't see this was a vital part of the success he had in his first 2-3 seasons. He then started to get rid of the good guys one by one, terrible decision like getting rid of Huth (the worst one), Whelan, Walters, Bardsley just to mention a few. Huhes should have walked the season before we were relegated, it was all in the cards, but this time Coates and the board reacted too slowwly and we were doomed. The same almost happened this season when the board clearly waited at least 5-6 games too long before they got rid of dreadful Jones! Luckily the board seem to have found the perfect replacement this time, and I really look forward to next season. O'Neill will keep us up and take us forward, I don't doubt that for a second! Go on you MIGHTY POTTERS!

Because the working relationships of the key roles in the club became untenable and results at the time gave and supporter disenchantment gave some reason .

I don't even know what the "rumour" is You are not alone. The truth is ( in my opinion ) that the football was boring and awful to watch. Those upstairs heard the moans and groans and were genuinely alarmed at the fall in Season Ticket sales. As awful as it was to watch we would not have been relegated. This Virus lockdown must be really setting in. I never thought I would contribute to another Pulis thread 😟⚓️

was it because his football was boring? was it because his signings was shit? or was it the other rumour people talk about on facebook? What other rumour? Please seriously don’t be on about the one where he supposedly hit Pennant with the fire extinguisher for fucks sake He left by ‘mutual consent’ but I think we all knew he’d been sacked really, in search of the ‘next level’.

Along with the fact that he despised TP so wanted to rid the club of any connection with him!

Supporters were genuinely a bit fed up of the negative approach on the pitch. Often playing square pegs in round holes, often we would have a four man midfield which contained three defensive midfielders (Whelan, Delap, Whitehead). A proper hero at the club, no doubt about that. If he'd have tried a different approach then he might have still been here, who knows.
