If this thread doesn't get very far I don't care it just takes my mind off things. I'll start. We have members of different generations on here so post your favourite ever player from the following countries. Non Stoke players only please. Just a bit of fun. I grew up with 90s ,00s football.

England: Matt Le Tissier Ireland: Roy Keane, I guess (it's hard not picking Walters) Argentina: Messi Brazil: Cafu, with a soft spot for Juninho Portugal: Ronaldo (not my favourite in comparison to the others, but I've got to admire him) France: Ginola Spain: Iniesta Germany: Klinsmann Italy: Zola Netherlands: Bergkamp Belgium: Hazard Scotland: Gary McAllister Colombia: Faustino Asprilla Sweden: Ibrahimovic Gonna add some other countries as most of my favourite players aren't covered above... Georgia: Georgi Kinkladze Ghana: Tony Yeboah Costa Rica: Paulo Wanchope Paraguay: Chilavert Croatia: Suker Bulgaria: Stoichkov Nigeria: Okocha (Guess when I grew up ) I've always wondered if kids growing up watching the Premier League would've liked Ricardo Fuller as much as I enjoyed some of those above... My reasoning for a lot of those players was their incredible skill and entertainment value. The players I watched and thought, "I wish I could do that." Players who made controlling a football look easy. For that reason, I missed out some greats such as Paulo Maldini, and a few French players I considered.

When I was putting the kids to bed earlier I was going through other players in my head and literally picked all of those as well - granted Costa Rica you don't have much choice and Croatia was toss up between Suker & Boban but that scooped chip wins it! I also thought of: Litmanen (someone above got him), Parhars (Latvia), Hagi (again, good shout above), Hadji (ex Coventry - Morocco (I think))

I liked Patrick M'Boma for Cameroon too, though he'd probably be superseded by Eto'o. There seems to be a severe lack of maverick players from various nations these days. I wonder if it's partly because you can't get away with not being super-fit, so the likes of Hagi and Stoichkov just wouldn't get anywhere in today's game. :/ Edit: just found this article: www.fourfourtwo.com/features/whatever-happened-maverick-footballerAnother edit: Stoke have been lucky to have two in recent times in Fuller and Arnautovic.

Beckham was brilliant at Free Kicks. When I got to Brazil I thought Ronaldo Ronaldinho with his skill. There was just something tho about the way Carlos could take a free kick corner or have a shot. That bend swerve.
Alot of my choices were for how they just delighted me in different ways. I fell in love with Zola in how he controlled a ball and jinked inside and out. Bergkamp the way he could bring a ball down then work with it so well. Drogba his power up front the ability to turn and strike it.
Strikers are always judged on goals and watching 90s football Shearer was just the best headers left foot right foot being in the right place at right time. MOTD sat night watch it he will be top of pile. I can see Similarities now with Kane the way hes always in the right place. Watching 00s premier League football Henry was just superb. 10/10 every week.
Didn't really follow his club career I just remember South Korea Japan 2002 and the finishing by Klose.
Messi and Ronaldo need no words.

No matter how good Ronaldo is, the only answer for Portugal is Rui Costa. Beautiful player, made even better by playing with his socks rolled down.

Not strictly following the thread format, but a fantastic trio at Marseilles. From the days of the discredited Bernard Tapie's era: Papin was a great striker. His record for Marseille and France was more than a goal a game. I went to see Marseille at that time v PSG, atmosphere was nuts. Abedi Pele was another great striker for Marseille, did Rudi Voller go there or did I imagine that?

Pele was signed to replace Francescoli: a player so impressive Zidane named one of his children after him! Was an awesome time for European football as there was Sacchi/Capello's Milan project and the phenomenal Red Star Belgrade side,(Cruyff's Barcelona too?) all competing with each other.

Francescoli never quite did it on the WC stage, really was looking forward to seeing him in 1990. We glimpses of him but was one of of the best players in the World and Uruguay won the Copa a few times with him, what an absolutely class player. Was surprised he ended up at Cagliari as seemed he was destined for England but think I would have chose Sardinia over Liverpool myself. He was something else

Who I rate ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ Gerrard. Would have won everything if he left the dippers but you canโt knock loyalty ๐ฎ๐ช Roy Keane. Twat but great player massive underrated at timeโs ๐ฆ๐ท Maradona. Twat but quite possibly the greatest player Iโve ever seen won a league title and a World Cup on his own basically. ๐ง๐ท Ronaldo. But for injury would have been untouchable and even with injury the greatest striker Iโve ever seen. ๐ต๐น Ronaldo. No question really consistent excellence ๐ซ๐ท Henry. Oozed class and just pips Zidane for me ๐ช๐ธ Ramos. Twat again but in this generation a great defender who scores more that some strikers ๐ฉ๐ช Mattheus. Ran games from multiple positions ultra reliable and winning mentality ๐ฎ๐น Baresi. Just pips Maldini, the guy was no giant but the most composed and combative defender Iโve ever seen. Donโt see records like his defensive everyday ๐ณ๐ฑ Gullit. Could play anywhere possibly the total footballer ๐จ๐ฎ Drogba. Big game player who turned up in most of them his goal scoring record in finals is ridiculous ๐ง๐ช De Bruyne. Why couldnโt his mum have divorced his dad and moved back to England so we could have had him

Agree almost totally with this. I can't go along with Ronaldo though =sorry! Rui Costa's a good call, but Paulo Futre could be in there. Andreas Iniesta wins overall for me.
