See that there is a link under "Teamtalk", where they question Shawcross' way back to our first 11 because Batth and Chester have formed such a solid partnership! Yes, keep Batth and play him alongside Shawcross I say! Chester has not been impressive so far, and looks way too vulnerable in the air for this division. A bit like Indi at central defence I think.

All three of them will be retired before we play another game anyway

Teamtalk have hardly got the best record in predicting anything to do with football! For my money Shawcross understands what is needed in defence better than either Batth or Chester and the side would be improved if he replaced either of them - always assuming he recovers form and fitness by the time football starts again.

6 games in and Chester getting written off... typical of this board. For me he has been pretty decent.

For this division, he was a very big part in Villas last two seasons, he's easily good enough for this league.

He has also played his part in at least a couple of goals against us in his short spell here, but I know it's still early days for him after the injury and lack of game-time. Still I'd prefer Shawcross and Batth as our central defence pairing, at least till Collins can prove he is better than one of them. In fact I'm not sure I want us to sign Chester on a permanent deal at all.

But he's also clearly made bad decisions and been slow to act/react on a few occasions and dropped (or nearly dropped) clangers. Could just be rustiness that can be re-polished or it could be that age and injuries have taken their toll and he's gone. We just dunno really do we but if we're hanging on to the former it's probably more through hope than expectation.

We had Wally 'on approval', saw that he was not very good, and signed him anyway. I have a horrible feeling that we will make the same mistake with Chester.

Like Shawcross, he's an older, football wise, guy unable to recapture what he was before that.
