Not surprised by Derby doing it. They spent all their spare cash cheating FFP to avoid a massive points deduction.....
EDIT I tried to quote the original posted article not sure how that happened?

Aren't the government paying them 80%... Yeah 80% of £30k as a maximum payout. That’ll bring them back to reality for a few months.

We hear the phrase: "Its a short career" a lot when discussing footballers salarys, yet it appears that only a minority actually appear to understand what that means in reality. Sure not every player is spending 2k on a night with a hooker but clearly the vast majority of them are doing almost zero preparation for the inevitable and the majority have unsustainable outgoings regardless of any level of income. I know a lot of footballers fall into the category of young and stupid, hell we were all that way once, but given their career and the advice they must recieve about financial planning I find it incredible that so many of them are playing the victim over paycuts which have impacted on 95% of the population. Its almost as if they've lived their entire lives in a bubble...

I bet he effing does. What a piece of work he is. Anyone still in a job is a good thing no? Of course. Furloughing them on full pay in the safety of their own homes would be my preference. He could afford to do it on the back of our Wimmer money alone and have loads of pocket change left!

I just don't see how players will be able to justify a return to their previous salaries once this thing is done.
People are going to compare them to NHS and other workers who are putting their lives on the line for a tiny fraction. And they have no defence, they haven't had one since Sky got involved and wages rocketed.
Society is changing at the moment and the change is going to become permanent. The players, and the clubs, are going to have to acknowledge that a realise the golden years are over.

As long as the public hold the billionaires of this world to the same high standards people like Rees Mogg and his funds too. Sadly I doubt they will as the working class footballers are the evil scourge of the economy or something.

Not only footballers though - what about some music artists, ceo's of companies and dont get me started on bloody reality show people. This crisis should be a catalyst to press the re-set button. Unfortunately I think these obscene alaries will soon be forgotton once the me me me society kicks in again. One thing I do hope will change after this is the country being less addicted to cheap Chinese goods and the country being less reliant on overseas production. Ia slso think it will have a latnig impact on how some people work (ie more working from home)

I think the zeitgeist will last, at least the lifetime of those old enough to remember.
I had a uncle who refused to buy any japanese goods during his lifetime ...because he had memories of WWII atrocities.
I fully expect people who die serving the NHS at this time to be added to the war memorials we see in every village, lest we forget...
Footballers are an easy target, their money is public knowledge, shady financiers are unfortunately less easy to identify. To be fair they have recognised this and made a good start, and they are bang on when saying any money they return must go to the benefit of the public and not their rich owners.

I wouldn’t put it past the current government to reward the nhs staff in the next budget with a pay freeze, I’d like to be proved wrong but I strongly doubt it.

Well on the basis that football clubs are apparently still considering spending £200m on this player or £75m on that player I don't think that the major clubs are anticipating any change. If the clubs are still prepared to throw money around like confetti, then why would the players not want what they see as their fair share of that money?

Must give a mention to Matty Longstaff at Newcastle who has agreed to give up 30% of his £850 a week wage.
Yes he'll probably get a bumper contract soon, but he could also snap his cruciate ligaments in his next game and be out for 18 months so fair play to the lad.......
