I'm aware that some of the places that provide sources of food, clothing, sleeping bags are having to completely scale back or withdraw their provision to the homeless due to the ongoing Coronavirus restrictions.
If you're able and inclined perhaps it's an appropriate time to drop a couple of quid in a hand or a hot drink/food item.

I hate homelessness. There are always a few people who aren't housable, but most people want a roof over them and it's shameful that the system fails so many. That said, I don't like giving money to randoms I don't know & can't trust. I picked Shelter who got a good score from independent checkers last I saw. When I lived in Reading a few of the homeless people there said they saw Crisis doing better work round their parts. It's a horrible time for so many of us, I hope we don't forget those who'd lost their houses before this whole shitstorm.

I do donate to Shelter however I also give to a homeless man that I recognise. I gave him a fiver on Saturday I've no idea what he will spend it on other than what his immediate need is which is far more important for him than my opinions or sensibilities.

Yeah, I'm not sure enough about what's right to give you shit for that mate. Some people call it "virtue signalling" but fuck that, we want everyone to know we're in this together and there are good people willing to help out. I stick with shelter not just because I trust them more than random people, but because they buy in bulk so I think they'll get a better deal and be able to help out more people for the same money. Also they can get the charity tax thing to make it go even further.

I know a few of the people who run it and you can't meet nicer more decent people. www.mannahouse-hanley.co.uk/

I never give money after seeing a so called homeless person in Dublin living it up in the pub after seeing her collecting all day. I stopped a friend giving her 20 Euro previously that day and glad I did. I know not all are like that but rather they ate than spent on drink or whatever.

Down in Reading there was Launchpad who did great helping people back on their feet and into work. So long as they're open with their books or you know you can trust the people I'm really supportive of the local charities. My girlfriend's a doctor and has told me to avoid homeless people over here if I want to be useful in the short term, since I've volunteered to help out some local oldies & I want to avoid giving them anything even if I'm just dropping off shopping etc. I think we need to be really strict in splitting up the jobs between people right now.

I know the advice is to give to homeless charities rather than individuals for the support to filter downstream but balls to that, if I know someone is homeless I'll give them money and if they choose to spend that on booze then so be it. There but for the grace of God, if I was on the streets I'd probably do the same. And I say that as someone who goes into Manchester regularly with a homeless charity (as a general dogsbody, tea/coffee maker, handing out sandwiches rather than any kind of expert), many a time I've given someone a fiver on the back of speaking to them which we're told to avoid. Some of the stories you get told are heartbreaking, and I have no doubt the odd one is made up or exaggerated but I'm happy to take my chances.......
