'I'm broken' reads a sign on a computer at the police station in Stoke-On-Trent, a working subtitle for this excellent if enraging documentary about the effects of austerity on policing and other front line services in a city already hit by the loss of its key industry. It bears witness to the officers commitment though as they deal with kidnappings and drugs offences.

Saw about ten minutes of this towards the end. I thought The Woman Officer was a good looking girl.
Mind you if I watch next week I think its more for the location shots and general interest.

It was no different under the Labour bastards mate. We are continuing with austerity though. The city is still being punished and we see that if the tories thought it was important enough they do have the ability to help out/invest, like they are doing now for the country. They obviously DO NOT care.

I don't want to get into another long winded debate over politics. It was a factual post from my point of view accept it or not. I've a lot of time for those cops I knew last night more than a few are mates. I don't care who's to blame if I'm honest. I'm glad I'm out of it, soooooo glad 👍

Breaking so many "uniform" regs it was unreal no discipline now mate. I have to say tho mate, generally speaking they did the city and their profession proud in my eyes, came across very well I thought. They did pal now knowing it as I do I know they have been chosen very carefully, I know the insp who was showing people around the fire station very well we joined around the same time. And I can tell you 100% hes a top bloke, my issue is with the chief Morgan. He was the worst Chief I've ever seen in Staffs he single handedly undermined the moral across the whole county virtually over night. When I first joined John Giffard was the gaffer. On my first day at HQ he came in a spoke to us and I shit you not he knew our names and took an interest. He would come over and talk to you while outside having a fag at lunch time no bullshit no PC bollocks just chat. Now Morgans idea was create "policy" to guide cops. And this is the issue cops are governed by law and legislation not policy. So you act under the law and fall fowl of policy he has a policy for everything. So you dont break the law or commit a crime but you're investigated and disciplined under policy. You have dumb cops who fuck up but imho you train them to get it right but Staffs increased policy for everyone throwing the baby out with the bathwater. But who checks policy your Sgt, then another Sgt then an inspector then the auditors and guess what you get different opinions and get shit on. I never saw my insp other than parade and my Sgt a bit more. Now when I left I had at least 3 Sgts and 2 Insp checking my work daily and telling me how to work. I used discretion and common sense but that contradicts policy. So you lose that ability and become a robot no compassion and work covering your arse daily and it becomes a grind. I started at Hanley with 5 on my shirt they changed the way they worked and amalgamated so my shift rose to 21. No extra cops just " bigger" area of responsibility. The issue was I knew my thieves, druggies etc on my patch. Now all of a sudden I was in uncharted areas and I was lost and had no clue who the burglar could be. We did object prior to change but we were ignored. Guess what they changed again a few years later ti get community policing back which they had dismantled in the first place. Over 1 million pound was spunked up the wall with body armour and who took the blame no fucker despite " us" telling them the issues. Morgan has increased the burden is anonymous and has now fucked off to the College of Policing leaving his bestie to crack on jobs for the boys. When I left my shift was 12 and a quarter were medicated for depression including myself and I still am. Take a look at the latest poll and moral is fucked. I loved the job but hated the pricks running it, my Sgt was my boss and I ran through brick walls for him gladly the others can fuck themselves. One of the best cops in Stoke has been suspended for 12 months now, the top cop in Tunstall because of a vendetta from HQ and it stinks. Rant over 🤬

Maybe as the series progresses more stuff will come to light.

It was no different under the Labour bastards mate. Ten years of austerity policies were not Labour, mate. And the global recession wasn’t Labour either, which is the go to Tory excuse for their favourite hobby of cuts, cuts and more cuts.

I'm passionate about cops mate but I'm also honest enough to say I genuinely detest some of the folk running Staffs now and I would not trust them an inch. Take a look at Morgan and how hes treating disabled pensioners outside of regulations and unlawful but the fat prick is still pushing on.

Just watched the programme...wish I hadn't. All that the officers did was slag off Stoke on Trent ! I know it isn't a perfect city but I'm sure isn't as bad as they make it ? Have they ever been to Liverpool or London ? The officers all seemed so fed up and disalusioned with their job...if it's so bad they could leave but I'm sure they all want to hang onto their Police pension. I'll watch it again next week and hope for less doom and gloom.

Im afraid SOT lags way behind these my friend.

Eggybread....I wasn't comparing city to city I was merely pointing out that we have far less issues than the bigger cities
Elystokie....my main observation was how the officers continually put Stoke on Trent down...it was non stop and quite depressing
Anyway we all have different opinions eh
