Boredom has certainly reached a new low when posters are wishing happy birthday to some extremely untalented and nondescript 80’s footballer!

Boredom has certainly reached a new low when posters are wishing happy birthday to some extremely untalented and nondescript 80’s footballer! You can hardly call a footballer with a university education for untalented and his degree certainly set him apart from all the rest. Could probably have done more with his career but somehow he seemed happy being a team player rather than going for the personal glory you'd expect from a striker. And he played the majority of his career in the 70s.

I love 70s football so keep em coming.
It's interesting how through the lens of nostalgia all football teams from that era are remembered endearingly (by me anyway) with the notable exceptions of Arsenal and Leeds who were like the Reggie Kray and Jack 'the Hat' McVitie of 70s nogger.

70s footballers were great.
Some great characters who are my favourites (excluding Stoke players) Ernie Hunt The Doog Alan 'blond bombshell' Whittle Willie Carr Stan Bowles Tony Currie Clyde Best Alan Woodward (who looked about 57 when he was still playing) Alan Gilzean (who looked about 67 when he was still playing!) John Osbourne (who used to have a fag when his team got a corner) Bryan ‘Pop’ Robson Dave Wagstaffe John O'Hare Stewart Barrowclough Cyril Regis Len Cantello Jimmy Greaves Bobby Tambling
many more!!!
Serious question
How come there were so many bald players in the 70s????
Bobby Charlton Ralph Coates Alan Gilzean Bryan 'Pop' Robson
Any others?

Had quite a history against Stoke actually I remember being on the Stoke End and Shilton miskicked a clearance so Gowo ran through to score a last minute equaliser. He was laughing as he scored.

Didn't Gowling dent our Championship hopes by scoring the winner for Newcastle after Stilton made some sort of blunder?

Didn't Gowling dent our Championship hopes by scoring the winner for Newcastle after Stilton made some sort of blunder? Yes, late equaliser, I remember it. It was a poor kick I think. Wasn't that also in the days when there was a lot of Geordies in Stoke who used to turn up to support Newcastle in those games. Always remember the Stoke end being rammed v Newcastle and them being really vocal throughout games.

Always thought was Mick Martin but thinking back you're right. Was on Sunday highlights I remember. One of the first games I remember on TV

No. That was the season after. Memory plays tricks Joe. As always you are correct. 74/75 was a 0-0 draw near the end of the season after Tony Currie shat on our dreams.
