Hello everyone, I hope this okay to post here, please move/delete if you need to! I’m part of a team at the University of Sheffield, led by Dr Chris Stride. We've published a number of academic papers and magazine articles relating to football history, on subjects such as statues and replica shirts (see, for example sportingstatues.com, and www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/17460263.2019.1578255). Our current project is investigating the music that football teams have run or walked out of the tunnel to over the years. We are looking for the music that Stoke have run out to, for as many seasons in the past as you can recall. We are simply interested in the title of the song, the artist who recorded it, and for which seasons Stoke ran out to this. Any help you can give us to piece together the different songs that your club has run out to would be hugely appreciated. If you have any personal anecdotes around the reasons for the songs being used, or the changes between them, that would also be fantastic. I should also add that we are not interested in goal music, or a song that is played at the final whistle, but just the song that is on the tannoy system as the players enter the field. If you think someone else may be able to help, or you have any questions, please let us know! We would be very happy to discuss the project. Cheers Joe Headland

Now the comedians have all had their go, I will say that at the height of the 80's inflatables craze we did, embarrassingly, run out to Henry Mancini's 'Pink Panther'!

Structural anthropologist to Stoke fan: did you choose the inflatable pink panther because of its mythology,a totem strongly suggestive of the tribalism of football fandom and cultural identity of S-O-T? Stoke fan: nah mate,it was all they had left in the shop....

Stiff little fingers opening day of the season v Sheff Weds circa 2000.
True re the Pink Panthers, wasn't it a toy shop near the roundabout in Newcastle , Paul Gherkin bought a load of Pink Panthers. Fair play to him to be honest became quite a thing.

The Steve Sharples version of Closing Credits: Bolero was played for a number of years when the players ran out after half time.

Foo Fighters - "The Pretender".
Maybe not as a walkout, but pre-match build up on a regular basis in our (1st?) Prem season.

I can't remember us having regular music we ran out at the Victoria Ground, see below for the final match against West Brom where it was more an announcement and crowd noise. In the mid-90s we ran out to the 'Marstons Pedigree' jingle a couple of times (likely some sort of match sponsorship deal)
At the Brit, from memory:
- Rule Britannia (1997 - 98ish) - Prokofiev's Dance of the Knights followed by Republica's Ready to Go - this was a blatant and embarrassing rip off from Sunderland and only done once - Beautiful Ones - I'm sure we did this one time in the first few years at the Brit but it didn't stick? - The Boys Are Back in Town (starting early 2000s) - We'll Be With You (Premier League to present day)

Unsure whether this was played when the teams walked out or just before but seem to remember it was around about the time we got promoted to the Prem. May have been a season or two before.

Still is Eminem and WBWY. Been that way since 2007 if not longer. Indeed only change in recent times is playing Delilah after that. I believe that started from Arsenal at home in 2017-18 season so all downhill from that change! Prefer the teams being read out and then perhaps playing it at half time or even full time after a win.

In the good old days, the teams ran out separately. There was none of the present synchronised entry onto the pitch.
Why did the colours look much brighter then. The grass at the Vic was greener than any grass I saw growing Longton.
