Watching back the videos from our cup games against Arsenal and West Ham, I really miss the 2008 - 2011 Stoke team. It was undoubtedly my favourite Stoke team in my lifetime.
I loved it all: the long throws, teams leaving games at the Brit battered and bruised, Etherington and Pennant, Shawcross and Huth at the back with Wilko and Higginbotham. Listen to the crowd in that West Ham video, with our persecution complex and genuine hostility to anybody who stood in our way. I found myself captivated and kicking every ball in those highlights, even ten years on.
Perhaps the greatest pleasure of it all, though, was the privilege of watching Ricardo Fuller lead the line week in, week out. A one man attack, who won every throw-in, free kick and corner, while ripping even the best defenders in the country to shreds. That Arsenal side finished in the top four, but Fuller ripped them apart. He stands head and shoulders above every other attacker to play for us in the last 35 years, better than Shaqiri, Bojan and yes, even Arnie.
What I would give to have that team again.
Does anybody have the full 90 minutes of that Man City game, or just the 80th minute roar?

There was a you tube clip that just had the 80th minute roar and the commentators referred to it in awe. 😊 But the clip isn't there now. 😥

A random one that popped up on YouTube today. Not Stoke but several Stoke connections on the pitch (Macari, Banks, Ball, Hartford) Lou tries (and fails) to clatter Banks early on (2:45)

Not Stoke but several Stoke connections on the pitch (Macari, Banks, Ball, Hartford) Lou tries (and fails) to clatter Banks early on (2:45) Flippen eck what an enjoyable watch that was. I implore some of you younger ones to watch this and see why us fossils rave about the game back then. Pretty it most certainly wasn't but try and edit out 20 minutes of blood and thunder football like that from 90 minutes of the modern game. Awesome hostile atmosphere, full blooded tackles, players in wide open spaces, Scots fan on the pitch trying to give Hunter a bunch of flowers and mistakes a plenty. You also get chance to see some footage of Banks (other than the usual clips which are trotted out) making it look like the ball is made from Velcro.
