Now JCB are based in Rocester and I've always pronounced it as "Rowster" on the news just in a segment on a local lad who competes in canoeing being sponsored ITV news called it "Rochester"
Who's right me or him????? And what other names or places do we pronounce wrong...

Haven’t JCB always been based in Rocester or there abouts... Ah well you see - Old Joe C Bamford decided to adapt a tractor and stick a bucket on the end of an "arm". In a field in Rocester.
In Uttoxeter, another Bamford (brother maybe?) did a similar thing. Is "Bamfords" still going? It must be.

There are hundreds of villages of course throughout the Uk whose local dialect pronunciations suggest that they are entirely different places to the ones that appear on a map, or sound different to what you would imagine.
I went to school in Brewood, Staffs, pronounced as Brood rather than Breee wood. And I regularly go through the village of Beausale in Warwickshire, pronounced as Boz al. All very confusing if you're trying to find the place for the first time.
