We took big followings everywhere in 92/93, most notably the 9,000 to West Brom. Our away followings took an age to recover post ID cards. Not sure they ever did recover? Stopped me going because I couldn't be arsed buy one. Hardly been away since. Not just I.D. cards te be honest, the general feeling of getting eploited pisses me off too.

Wait a minute what about that Birmingham following when the riot kicked off after Paul Barnes goal ?
Probably one of the best mentals of all time, lasted ages and it was absolute limbs.
The Vinny Overson goal line clearance sparked the Zulu invasion !

Some of the recent ones have been pretty good too..... Barnsley and Huddersfield reminded me of the Durban era.
Swansea away with a following of about 700 was pretty special in its own way too....last minute wins away are as rare as rocking horse shit

No truth in vale selling 1500 for Oldham tickets not on sale until today I didn't think the rumour was about 1500 ticket sales. I believe the fake news was around the fact someone claimed Port Vale had sold 1500 bars of soap in a public service health exercise as they were frightened of losing even more support.

Let's not forget Notts County away in 1979. I think we took around 14,000 out of a 21,000 gate for that one... I heard that was 17,000. Wish I’d have been there

There was a lot. That's all I know. Bet it wa amazing when we scored near the end I don't remember much about it. The match went by in a flash. Then those last couple of minutes lasted hours. That bloody clock must have been broken. It felt like a massive outpouring of relief as much as anything. But it was a pretty epic mental. Mind you they were always better and more dangerous on terracing.

Early 90’s was the Bollocks for passionate away followings. Not just numbers but there was always an edge and a special atmospheres. Wolves 5,000 Man City 6,000 Man Utd Cup 10,000 Burnley 5’000 Letting Orient 4,000 WBA 8,000 Liverpool Cup 6,000 Birmingham 6,000 Chelsea Cup 5,000 Notts County 4-5000 Bolton 5,000 Leyton Orient was a great following, I think they put an end to our unbeaten run that day. Ricky Otto! Think we had every window on our coach put through that day, Orient first then Spurs on the North Circular. Early 90's were mental every away match. West Brom game will always be special, Liverpool in the cup cause to score was unexpected, Rotherham with Steino's half way liner and Torquay hanging from the Police Box steps. Special mention for the relegation Party at Brighton and an emphatic win in a shit season. Happy days!!

Phoned the pub up when we got home to say we were going back the week after with vale LOL.

I remember playing Everton in the FA Cup and abloke on 606 boasting they took 8000 to our place . Considering they had less than 5000 tickets was good

Just remember it as seconds before I had said how absolutely abysmal he was. We were in that absolute dire zig zag purple kit and played awful. The thing that stood out most that day was trying to get bloody parked near the ground. Took best part of an hour. Bit of a rubbish day all round.

Burnley away in that 92 season was my favorite. We went up there and destroyed them despite Burnley also going for promotion. Think Graham Shaw bagged 2? WBA away, Vale, blackpool, Preston, brighton were all wonderful away days Remember it well had two new Michelin tyres on my fiesta sport at Browns garage in the morning went the game 2 Shaw goals and two flat tyres that had been spiked, was a night mare getting home, turns out one of the lads left a Stoke scarf in the back window and ironically he didn't pay a penny towards the cost of getting home or the tyres!

I don't care what anybody says that was a great time for stoke fans. everybody went away knowing they were going to be ok (probably because we were in the lower divisions) but it grew even if we drew Liverpool, man.u we were well supported and felt good maybe cocky. for the younger ones a bit like the pullis era but much more together and every lad under 40 couldn't wait for the weekend.

Correct me if I'm wrong, you had a big following at Highbury in 2005 for the 3rd round of the FA Cup. It was a Sunday fixture and without going into too much detail; there were a few hundred Stokies outside my local at 9am that morning, all in good spirits. The copper in charge (they were there with the wagons, but kept a low profile) told the landlord to open up and serve them alcohol (officially not allowed until 12). It all went well, it was the talk of the area for a good while.

don't know about that spurs lad. But I do remember coming down to white hart lane in .I think it was 1972/73 in the cup on a football special (train) and we were diverted to Euston. I was 13 and got filled in by a lad and his mates I got lost. I do remember he had a blue mark on his neck and this bloke and his wife took me to seven sisters.

Is Ricky Otto trying to claim that He was a good player, went to Birmingham and stopped for driving erratically ...turned out he was off his bonce wasn't he ? Was an in joke at the time. whenever I said a player was awful they scored.

Another one was Kenny Achampong, who was another good winger.
