Reminds me of Stoke signing Grobbelaar or Big Nev in the past - way past it at the top level and on a final payday Gudjohnson style.

He was shambolic in their last game before the cup final, running round like a pub keeper

Brucie was good for us wasn’t he? Worlds better than Nev who was the size of a Ford Focus.

Always remember a goal Trevor Sinclair scored past Grobelaar at the Vic for Blackpool. Sinclair ran from the halfway line and belted a shot right across him and into the bottom corner.
Superb goal.

Villa were utter shite. Far worse than we were when we went down. Even their only decent players, Mings and Grealish, were cack.
They'll be a great addition to the Championship. Especially as they'll hopefully get battered with FFP.

He's completley passed it. I said that when they were being linked with him on Butland thread. Villa were very unlucky to loose Heaton but you need adequate replacement.

Didn’t Grob play for us at Vale Park in one of his appearances? I think he did, yes. He certainly did - in the glorious 0-2 win there that sent us God knows how many points clear and practically guaranteed us promotion. Brucie was dancing on his goal line as we sang our way through the night. Fucking perfect evening

Superb Lou interview afterwards . ” They got where they are by running around , now they think they can play football , they just ruined 17000 Sunday lunches and I’m going to spoil theirs .”

I remember Southall in the 2-5 Man City game, which put us in 3rd tier. He was so big he couldnt get off the ground...was lobbed by Goater or Dickov (I erased the memories)..they were dark days.

Superb goal. remember that like it was yesterday….and at the end of the game the Stoke fans applauded the Blackpool team off the pitch....they were appalling that season but ran us off the park that day…...they played well. We could have played all weekend and still not have scored, it was just one of those days

Especially as they'll hopefully get battered with FFP. Cack ? I have not heard that word for many, many years. In fact I had forgotten it existed. Is it a Stoke on Trent word just used in this area.? 😃 I am going to google it and try to answer my own question. EDIT Apparently it is “Old English”. Quotes Cow Cack. As a kid I always thought they were Cow Packs. Maybe I have had it wrong all my life.

And as you say looks like cack is old English derived from the Latin for shit - cacere. Who'd have thought a kid from Ipstones was (ef) fluent in Latin.

To continue this vital subject, cow pat is the correct term for a flat round deposit of dung.

I remember he was in goal for Swansea away.
WHAT AN AWAY DAY! I didn't realise where Swansea was! left Stoke after work and got there at half time, and I went via Servern Bridge not M50! Had to pay full, got in. already 1-0 down.
Their pitch invasions caused by Swing Low!?! Game mainly carried on! And there were loads of them coming from all 3 sides of fully fenced grounds, fighting all along top of Stoke end fence. IMAGINE THAT NOW! After game everyone's car was smashed to bits as they looked for Staffs on the tax disc. I left mine on double yellows outside a kebab house near ground. My car wasn't touched and no ticket!! Most worried I've been at a ground, coming out we somehow ended up walking wrong way through Swansea fans, who were all looking for trouble. I had a Stoke top under a demin jacket. There were even barracades in the streets around Vetch Field. Pulled up at first services celebrate not dying! Stoke fans were having to kick windows out of cars to see to get home, blood everywhere.
We won 2-1. Grob played well as far as I can remember, I think he even had his usual dribble out down the wing!
HAPPY DAYS!

Didn’t Grob play for us at Vale Park in one of his appearances? I think he did, yes. Was the game after Blackpool. The previous season we'd lost at home to Chester and Hartlepool who I think we're both relegated which cost us promotion. Lost at Torquay also, we were a bit rubbish v the bottom teams. We were atrocious v Blackpool but a great season that year

Shouldn't laugh but I remember a vicar from Chester talking about his account of that day. He said as he left the ground he'd never been so scared as they had that loony idea of allowing the fans out next to each other at the same time. If I remember rightly Chester were given the Butler stand paddock as due to attendances we had both ends. I think he ran into a sweet shop for his own safety ...I just had images of a vicar legging it ...

They were the days of the Jaton Family Stand, with away fans standing underneath, before the promotion season where as you say they were moved to the paddock. I can't half tell some stories from those days. As a young 10 year old, it didn't half form the character.

Was chaos outside as fans walked through each other. Was a ridiculous idea letting fans out together. He still talks about it.
