For my 5th birthday, my late dad took me to southampton for my 1st live footie match Southampton beat the men in white { Stoke] and i cried all the way home cause they lost That was it, Stoke for life, and that was over 60yrs ago [ and ive cried a few times since following them] lol I think that was probably Southampton's Terry Paine and Ron Davies era.

At that Oldham game there were a lot of people purporting to be Stoke fans that had a different agenda... The right hand end of the support that day was mainly season ticket holders and singing stoke songs. The left hand side seemed to be people that got tickets late on after the Oldham troubles. Lots of the racist chanting came from that side.

My dad's insistence that I support a local team and not be a glory hunter (I could apparently recite the name of every Man Utd player off a team picture at the age of 3, much to my dad's disgust. Hence his ultimatum that I follow either Stoke, Wolves or Shrewsbury, all being about equidistant from where we lived). Stoke were his team so they became mine.
Maybe beating the Ar5e 5-0 in the first game that dad took me too helped a bit.
"Do we always win 5-0 dad?" "Every game, son. Except the ones we win 6-0. We're the best team in the world." Lying git. I love everything he did for me, all the same.
And a seemingly infinite capacity for enduring frustration, misery and pain. I must have been a very bad person in a former life to have been punished like this for 50 years.

As a child in rhe 60s used to visit my gran in Fletcher Road so we had to walk past the Stoke End of the Victoria Ground, on matchdays the atmosphere and the noise drew me in, pestered my Dad to take me to a match, first game against West Ham standing on the Boothen End and hooked ever since. Stoke are my team, will watch matches with other teams involved but it is not the same and couldn't even think about supporting anyone else

Mother from Scotland, faytha from Essex, they met at Keele Uni in the 60s and ended up settling in Stoke, where I was born and brought up. Dad became an adopted Stokie, saw the great teams of the 70s and took me and my bro down when we were kids in the 80s. I moved away in my twenties and over the years so did all my friends and family, parents separated and went their separate ways.
Funny really I have very few ties to Stoke now apart from the club. It's a bit sad because it's where all my formative memories are and is still the only place I'd ever really call home. Maybe that's partly behind my stubborn and enduring obsession with SCFC...

That game represents the only time ever ever been ashamed to be a Stoke fan. Nobheads in their hundreds chanting "You're just a town full of P*kis" and "B, B, BNP!" Utterly contemptible and embarrassing to both the inhabitants of the city and the club that represents it. I was sat next to a bunch of idiots at that game who weren't even Stoke fans. One guy starting laying into a fella in front of him who told them to watch their racist language who was with his son, no more than 10, I had a lad with me from Dublin who was a tough old bloke and he sparked the fella out clean as the poor Dad was taking a real beating. He'd broken the Dad's glasses and smashed his nose, his lad was in tears. None of the tough guy's mates did anything and never came back after half time. Was a horrible day. Liverpool fan from Dublin never came to a Stoke game again as was stunned Yeah that wasn't the kind of thing I was proposing was good. I was in the stoke side to the right and remember making it moody all game singing and willing the lads on (stoke songs) and we scored late on. Think we were going for playoffs.

Genetics and blood line. My dad told me I was a Stoke fan when I was old enough to understand, I canโt remember it any other way. I really did think Stoke were the best and most successful team in the world for years before I realised that actually, they werenโt.๐๐๐๐ Hasnโt stopped me doing the same to my lads though.๐

Born in Stoke, lived in the shadow of the Victoria Ground (could basically fall out of bed and into the Boothen End) and my granddad was on Stoke's books back in the 20s/30s up until he got married and was offered a job that payed four times the wage he was getting from football. Hard to imagine that these days, a 'normal' job paying four times a footballers wage.
