We need to stay up first. If we do, and we should, then a good solid pre season, and a continuation of our record under O’Neill should see us aiming for 73-78 points and a shot at the play offs.

Allen’s return to fitness will be key , the one silver lining be of course he will still be here

Hope I am wrong, but i am less confident of us staying up now we have lost Joe,we have no one who covers the ground that he does, plus the fact that we have a shocking back four, and if we keep a clean sheet it is more luck than judgement, they all have mistakes in them...if we stay up I want to see that back four gone next season....with the players we have available at the moment,I think a stronger back four would be... Edwards.. Shawcross..N.Collins..J.Collins

If we stay up there’s a lot to be positive about Moving forwards
- a decent manager - some good youngsters - Verlinden, Allen, Ryan back from injury
The only thing that could mess it up is FFP
With the right man in charge which in my opinion we have and a few additions we’ve got a chance. We certainly shouldn’t be in the mess we’ve been in this season. Priority should be a new GK, LB, RW and cover for Campbell.

Hopefully the young lads will be given a good run in the team. Collins, Sorensen, OB, Verlinden.

If we stay up (pretty confident we will now), I’m convinced Campbell will be the top scorer in the league next year.

Come next season I can see Collins getting more opportunity alongside Batth / Ryan. LB needs sorting as neither Indi or Ward are the answer. If we’d got Brunt he’d have done a good short term job.

The main job of a fullback is to stop the crosses coming in, neither of ours do this,we are particularly vunerable when crosses come in and around our six yard box,we don't have Shawcross and Huth anymore to deal with them...we have what we have, and there lies the problem for me.

what do folk mean IF we stay up we WILL stay up in regard to next season it depends who leaves and who we bring in if Butland hadn't had a poor season i would say he was nailed on to go i also reckon there is a good possibility should he be back to full fitness Allen will also leave but i am still optimistic a play off place is there for the taking

Still only 3 points from drop and Allen out.....lose at Reading next week and we could be back in it! More twists and turns yet I fear?

I wouldn't be against bringing Bursik (spelling ??) , Sorrensen, the big Scottish fella on loan at Accrington or is it Fleetwood, can't think of his name? Jesus I must be getting old my memory is terrible. Anyhow bringing them all into the match day squad next season, and see what they can do

If we avoid the drop (and I think we will) I am optimistic for next season. Michael O'Neill has done a lot of right things for me. We seem to be rid of some of the legacy of the past - expensive players not cutting the mustard and, through lack of effort/commitment not setting an example to the rest of the team. He is the first manager for a long time who has given youngsters a chance and through recruitment, lowering the average age of the team. If these younger players have the ability and commitment they could prove a handful for opposition next season. Importantly, he has the ability to lift the team after poor performances and results( Derby. Q.P.R.) so that we bounce back afterwards. On the evidence so far, his man management seems to be first class. Persuading Tyrese to sign quite a lengthy contract when it looked as though he could leave is an example of this. His record since he became our manager would suggest a top half finish next season and, if we discount his first two games in charge, perhaps even better. Of course there will some disappointments on the way, but my glass is half full.

I noticed he almost gave a goal away on Saturday with a misplaced clearance

It may see us play more deeply to accommodate it, but at least we have a week to try and figure all of that out and we aren’t in a fixture congested period at present.

I doubt we would have the resources or the attraction to get him at the moment. Interesting that MON actually named Joe Rothwell at Blackburn as a player who has caught his eye at the fans forum last night. Afobe will start with a clean slate in pre season. I wouldn’t rule anything out with him just yet.

Good player. Aaron Connolly mentioned going out on loan next season to get game time in the Irish Independent last week. What a player he looks.
