Christ almighty. I’m assuming you’re one of the WFH crew? People have a choice to stay at home if they want to, as it should be. I hate working from home. People shouldn’t be forced in. Sick pay should be in place for the isolation. Rubbish, nobody should be working from home and nobody should “isolate”. If people want to isolate, well that’s up to them but it’s just an excuse for the work shy to get some time off. Introducing sick pay will just encourage them. Don’t you care about the economy?

Egg fucking zactly. Mandatory isolation still should be a thing. If you're scared YOU stay indoors. Stop trying to force your fears onto other people.

My gran is in a home and has dementia - fucking horrible. Could tell you stuff from 70 years ago and do mad sums in her head but couldn't remember my wife was sat five feet away. I'm sorry to hear that mate. My Nan would get confused sometimes because the grandkids had changed a load from when she remembered, but the times she recognised us again were so precious. My Gran lived outside the area and I only saw her maybe 6 times a year as a kid, so she really struggled. Once she was convinced that my Dad was her husband and I was the kid who used to sneak down the side of the house to nick stuff from the garden. She told me Dad "that little bugger is here, you keep him distracted while I get the shovel to whack him".

Had a similar experience myself, it’s weird but you get used to it and sometimes I’d just look at her and think “she’s happy, I’ve no need to start explaining stuff”.

I've written something up I'll post later regardless, but I'm really interested in how you think the virus spreads. What do you expect masks do, and how does that (or doesn't it) affect virus spread? Not taking the piss, genuinely interested. I'll post my answer after but it'll probably be better if I understand your position first. I know how the virus spreads so I’ll be interested to see your analysis on how Omnicron “gets through cloth” as I just don’t understand the logic Happy to be educated on this I want to rephrase, sorry for bad wording: cloth masks seem effective at reducing transmission earlier, but have far less effect with Omicron. I wonder if you and I have different understanding of virus spread though, might explain our opinion split. My understanding: the virus is a physical thing that has to go, in one piece, between people. It sucks at surviving on its own, which is why soap fucks it up since even just messing with the viral envelope is enough to stop it. Transmission: 1) it hangs out inside our bodies, including the respiratory tract 2) when we breathe/cough/etc we throw out aerosols and droplets, these pick up some of the virus particles 3) the virus particles are carried into us inside aerosols or droplets. 4) Each particle can infect, but it has to do a bunch of steps like binding to an ACE-2 receptor and replicating without dying or being ripped up by our body. So on average you need hundreds or thousands of virus particles to infect. I accept I'm pretty dumb at bio, so I don't think I know better than the experts. I've read dozens of mask studies and the data match what they say, so it makes sense to me that masks slow the spread of the virus.

Kind of like you're not respecting them as a full person any more? I ended up doing what you say but it was unnatural and still hurt. My heart goes out to anyone whose loved ones are dealing with it. It's so common in my family so I gift my Dad puzzles every so often. He likes them and they're supposed to keep the brain fitter, he seems alright!

I think it’s horrible and hated it, need the everyday social interaction. All those Zoom meetings made me feel sick watching people in their pyjamas and kids running amok

The gf had covid last week, her first positive test in the entire thing despite working a lot of covid ICU. I wonder if our night out clubbing had anything to do with it. She's fine now, and her ICU has hardly any covid patients left in it.

Wiped out totally for 2 days now, aches, pains, thumping headache and a sore throat, x 2 negative tests.
According to Dr Google I’ve probably got a super cold virus as we’ve built up no immunity to the old common cold now, great...

Seeing as how the thread has returned to the main page, it was interesting to see Wee Nippy without a mask at Prince Phillip's memorial service yesterday, despite mandating them in churches in her own country.

This has been noted north of the border by some folk.. But, folk up here are still, for the most part, obeying her dictats. Mask wearing on the train yesterday to Edinburgh was ubiquitous. Way higher than my last couple of trips before and just after New Year.

Which tests are you doing, I did two of the up the nose ones only and was clear, did 1 of the old style throat and nose and got 2 lines, confirmed it with a PCR, which I needed to sort out hotel cancellation for this weekend and deferral for the Manchester Marathon I had the aches, shivers and shakes for a couple of days, couldn't get warm yet the head was on fire, wearing a hoody and a fleece in the house, now its just the head and throat, painful to swallow and the cough.

Nose and Throat job, in fact just done another test and still negative.
Absolutely wiped out still after three days, I have a test being dropped off via Royal Mail this morning so that’ll give a definitive answer.
With the free home tests stopping after today there’s no way I’ll pay the scandalous prices especially as most of the producers seem to be linked to friends of friends of MP’s.

Anyone still think dropping a nuclear bomb on the global economy in the name of a largely non fatal virus was a wise idea?
It's hard to believe that for such a prolonged period, a good chunk of British society thought lockdowns and masks were the way forward and were convinced they wouldn't cause more collateral damage than the virus itself. Astoundingly dumb.
Where have all the lockdown cheerleaders gone? Probably bemoaning the cost of living crisis.
