That's not the case though is it. No but the point is to illustrate that there is a significant human and economic cost to not dying from it if you are unfortunate enough to get it in more severe form ( 25% of hospital admissions are now under 55) which needs to be considered equally as much as mortality and currently it is not. You don't stop focussing on road safety just because fewer people are dying in car accidents if people are still losing arms and legs and ending up in wheelchairs. Most of these patients, if not all, have underlying health conditions

The focus should be on deaths. If the deaths weren't occurring we shouldn't really be worrying to the extent we are. What about hospital capacity Infections alone wouldn’t be a problem but unfortunately too many require hospitalisation with all the problems that brings

Saw something similar this morning but that immunity from infection lasts 5 months. Hope vaccination is better than that or some people will need revaccinating before they've even had their second dose. AT LEAST five months (and some studies say eight months) because that's how long they've been assessed. It's been pointed out that some people who contracted the initial SARS virus still had immunity seventeen years later and some experts think that contracting Covid will give you long term immunity but they cannot be totally sure. It almost certainly will give people well over a year.

I see that Priti Patel, the minister in charge of law and order in England, the minister who said only a day or so ago that the Coronavirus laws are crystal clear and we have to abide by them, has just said that current rules mean that you have to exercise alone.
Is she for real?

This 4.5 million number of those awaiting treatment is horrifying. Anyone who thought covid deaths would outnumber those killed as a result of lockdowns and untreated illness was always on another planet. Its going to be a massacre.

www.theguardian.com/business/2021/jan/14/pimlico-plumbers-to-introduce-no-jab-no-job-work-contracts-covidI think there was a question / query / statement a few pages back about the vaccination and the query over renewing their season ticket Looking at the article, this would look to be the start So imagine going on the web to renew your season ticket and there is a ticket box saying enter you vaccination number here, with a comment, saying without this you cannot buy your ticket If employers can do it, then why not clubs like Stoke - not singling out Stoke btw Then no doubt, publicans to be asked to check customers Where will it end?

So why are all the people who have been posting for months about the overreaction to Covid either stopped posting or are posting increasingly irrelevant crap? To avoid admitting they got it completely wrong? No shame in admitting to being wrong. What is shameful is advocating policies and behaviours that will make a shit situation worse when it's bleeding obvious that that is what would happen. Is saving face really that important? I think this must have acted as a call to arms because they’re out in force again today 🤣

It is indeed a horrifying figure but, repeats, it won't be made better if our hospitals are rammed full of highly infectious Covid patients so until we get on top of this blasted virus we are damned from here to eternity!

Quick update from the North Staffs where the Mrs is currently plying her trade. Two weeks ago she was saying it was really quiet and didn’t know what all the fuss was about. Now it seems they’re bursting at the seams. Also she says whole wards are being closed for a full day at a time due to deep cleaning which can’t be helping. And...... she’s been in since half 6 and has her first 10 minute break now!

Besides I’m still redundant so cooking is pretty much all I do, it’s my lifeline. Apart from Cricket of course😉

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-55663308Wearing masks outside? Will literally achieve nothing as transmission outside is almost zero. Compliance will also be very low. A possible 3 metre social distancing limit?? They are barking up the wrong tree. These things won't change the course of the pandemic, these aren't the reasons for trasmission. Numbers are in decline now anyway, so the measures must be having an effect as they currently are.

Manhattanites have been wearing face masks "in public" since mid-April. It's rare to see anyone on the street not wearing a face mask and New Yorkers aren't the most compliant people at the best of times. It may only cut the spread by a fraction but having had 25,000+ die in our city it's a show of respect and solidarity as much as anything.

We went to Ibiza in July/August and mask wearing was compulsory in all outdoor spaces aside from the beach. I think you could get away without wearing a mask if you were exercising. It was a mild inconvenience.

Do you remember this American doctor who was being shut down on Facebook and twitter for his positive views on Ivermectin? Well, interestingly, this was published in the UK on Thursday ... swprs.org/who-preliminary-review-confirms-ivermectin-effectiveness/?amp&__twitter_impression=trueDr Andrew Hill of the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Liverpool (UK) is currently performing a WHO-sponsored review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials of ivermectin against covid. In the following 12-minute video, Dr Hill is presenting his preliminary results, which indicate a highly significant 83% reduction in covid mortality.
