Bach’s Cello Suites are attributed to the sea shanty’s, with the dawn of Enlightenment & the early Modern era. It was like the jazz of its day. So come on & get down to this funky sound🎼

Love it 😂
The question is can this be topped probably the most famous.
Drunken Sailor - heaving shanty What shall we do with a drunken sailor? What shall we do with a drunken sailor? What shall we do with a drunken sailor? Early in the morning? Way-hay, up she rises Way-hay, up she rises Way-hay, up she rises Early in the morning Put him in the long boat 'til he's sober Pull out the bung and wet him all over Put him in the scuppers with the deck pump on him Heave him by the leg in a runnin' bowlin' Tie him to the taffrail when she's yard-arm under

I like a good sea shanty but know sod all about them. Does the Fantasia On British Sea Songs they do at last night of Proms count? It's always the best bit of the night

There’s a distinct lack of ancient mariners on here, considering how many exnavy types we have on the Oatcake. Which is surprising, as we’re a land locked county & our greatest achievement was sinking the greatest ship ever 🚢 What’s up with you, does it bring back painful memories🥺

There's some fine sea shanties above on the YouTube video, out of interest why is it so important to you that it's ex navy ones you're after? It's the same sea and pretty much the same songs from my limited knowledge. If it's someone in particular you're having a pop at then at least give them more than a couple of hours to see it

Does this count?
Haul away boys, let them go
Out in the wind and the rain and snow
We've lost more than we'll ever know
'Round the rocky shores of England

Have you got any other ‘greatest engineering triumphs’ you’d like to share with us? The Hindenburg airship, perhaps, or maybe the Tacoma Bridge, or how about the Chernobyl Nuclear power plant? And, as a matter of interest, where did Noah come from since you seem to know all about him?

And, as a matter of interest, where did Noah come from since you seem to know all about him? I’ve just searched it... Definitely not Captain Noah Smith from Boslum. The Bible does not specify where Noah was born, and he was NOT a Jew (that religion didn't exist yet). The Bible also does not specify the nationalities of his sons wives. As to taking the story literally or not, that is totally up to you. Edit: As for "Ur of the Chaldeans" that place was not mentioned in the Bible until Haran (the father of Lot) died, and that was after the flood (Genesis 11).

" What was his favourite sea shanty...?" I've just remembered, it's another one by the Dreadnoughts. Me and Smithy used to have similar tastes in music until he went searching for Davy Crockets locker. Anyway, here's the Dreadnoughts at their finest once again.....

Prior to the early morning Shipping Forecast at around 0500, on BBC Radio 4 there used to be an excellent orchestral medley of sea shantys.
The Shipping forecast was in those days almost an institution , the lunch time one preceded by the Archers and the one at 0030 had the hypnotic music of Sailing By. Many sailors waited up for the next days forecast only to fall asleep to the music.

My last job in the Navy was in the Met office, and the shipping forecast was regarded as an irrelevance. I guess it carries on as a cult favourite after a book at bedtime. I love it.
