You ask a question, pleading ignorance, and then it turns out that you have all the right answers yourself. How pathetic is that? As pathetic as someone who wants the last word

Maybe so, but I note you fail to answer the question, so I repeat it again: Do you honestly think that, sitting on 8 points from 15 games and cast iron favorites for the drop, we could have attracted anyone who, with essentially the same team that couldn't buy a win, would have gotten us an additional 34 points by now? If you can't answer because it makes you embarrassed, we understand, however the only conclusion that we can reach is that your answer is indeed simply another attention seeking mindless Moan-Moan bashing of the club you purport to support. You're a fucking idiot. What was the last game you went to? 1970. Also happens to be the last time I was in the UK. Also doesn't have a thing to do with your claim that hiring MON was the wrong decision. At least I'm not such an idiot that I can't answer a question. Perhaps you'd like to try again? Do you honestly think that, sitting on 8 points from 15 games and cast iron favorites for the drop, we could have attracted anyone who, with essentially the same team that couldn't buy a win, would have gotten us an additional 34 points by now? Or is your ridiculous claim simply more Moan-Moan bashing of everything the club does?

If letting him continue to manage NI till the conclusion of their run in this tournament was necessary to signing him then we made absolutely the right decision. It wasn't. Here you go Moron.

Maybe the Sentinel takes a long time to get to Mars or wherever you reside? Moan-Moan, in an effort to be almost civil, even on the most careful reading, your response to iwebby can only mean one of 2 things It wasn’t (necessary to signing him) Or It wasn’t (the right decision) Given that you have no inkling of what actually occurred during the negotiation, and given your record on here of continually slamming Stoke for just about everything they do, the second meaning is the only logical approach. But hey, feel free to vent your spleen and call everybody else thick because you can’t construct a decent sentence that conveys what you are trying to say.

The whole 'who goes to more games' is such embarrassingly pathetic cock measuring. We're sat on a Stoke City internet forum, when there's no football on. We're all the biggest losers and we all follow Stoke to an extent where we're entitled to our opinions, even Benjy. Also it was a proper Boris Johnson move from you that, his question was very valid and you retorted with something totally separate and irrelevant. Who else could have kept us up? In hindsight maybe Nigel Pearson to be fair, but I can think of no one else and maybe he'd have turned us down and held out for a Prem job anyways tbf.

Neil Harris at Cardiff has a PPG of 1.56, better than MON's 1.47. They both took over at roughly the same time, Harris having 9 wins and 12 draws from 25 games. MON having 10 wins and 4 draws from 25 games.

A lot of that is up for debate of whether it would have had any bearing or not. The truth is nobody knows if O'Neill is the only manager that could have come in and saved us. You could point at the jobs Paul Cook and Gehard Struber have done with much less resource and ask if they could have done well here? I don't know why people just can't accept that for some, the dual job situation is an issue of how our club has been run for far too long, and is an indicator as to why we've dropped so far and so quickly. I think the argument is deep and complex enough to happily support O'Neill in the job he's doing whilst genuinely questioning the owners without being labelled a negative so and so in line with what is going on here.

I'm not defending the owners? They have made the right choice in getting MON, that could be (and I believe is) basically down to luck and getting it wrong until they got it right. Sorry mate but you can speculate all day about what might have happened. O'Neill's transfer strategy of signing young players and wanting people with pace is spot on. His interviews are refreshing, he has brought in a sense of calmness and professionalism we've dearly missed. The football's been much better and we have stuck to a formation and are actually creating an identity. The dual job is surely only an issue if it's creating an issue, which thus far it never has?

It hasn't created a single issue, but we were saying that about our transfer policy when we were finishing 9th in the PL season after season, when the sand foundations were slowly being washed away underground and out of our hindsight. The issue for some of us is the thought process behind it, regardless of how well it is going at the surface at the moment. I rate O'Neill far higher at his job than I do our owners at theirs. I just don't accept the sticking of fingers in ears and the "who else could have done it?" argument as means of defending the situation that has been created. Being lucky and finding a manager good enough to pull it off is a totally different argument.

Not sure how they got there, only they are. He's clearly the right man for the job, he's exactly what we needed and if him continuing the campaign with NI was crucial to his joining then I'm glad we agreed to it instead of going for an alternate target who would be able to 'give 100%'.

It seems certain that the play-offs at the end of this month will be postponed by UEFA at their big meeting on Tuesday, and almost equally certain that the Finals will be deferred until 2021, most likely the summer. Which means the play-offs will be rescheduled for later this year (or possibly spring next year?).
All of which makes this thread academic, as this article from BBC NI makes clear:
Coronavirus could end O'Neill's tenure as Northern Ireland boss
Michael O'Neill's eight-year stint as Northern Ireland manager could come to an early end due to coronavirus.
Uefa will decide on Tuesday if Northern Ireland's Euro 2020 play-off in Bosnia-Herzegovina will be postponed.
O'Neill was named Stoke City boss in November but was to remain in charge of NI for the play-offs later this month.
"It wouldn't be doable if you were doing it September, October and November, that wouldn't be an option," said O'Neill on his dual role.
"November to March is the quietest part of an international manager's calendar and that has coincided with the period I've been in charge here."
EDIT: I see the Daily Telegraph is speculating that UEFA will keep this summer and autumn open for the various leagues to complete season 2019/20, with the Euro Finals being moved to December: linkThough either way, it would mean the end of Michael's double jobbing as of now.
