In the 24 seasons since the current format of the leagues began in 1995, the number of points necessary for survival seems to have been slowly diminishing in both the Champo and the Prem. Curious. That is all.

I think the premier league one is affected by more & more of the points being hoovered up by big 4/5/6 meaning there are less points available for everyone else and hence the points of 17th likely to be lower

There were also 22 teams in the Premier League when it started, so 4 extra matches to gain points. It doesn't seem that'd affect the trend much though - you could see how it differs with points-per-game.

A increasingly inequitable football society? I think we knew that in the Prem with the soar away 'Big 6' hoovering up all the points but clearly it seems it has struck the Championship too. Although I thought the Championship was famously an 'anyone can beat anyone on their day' kind of a league
