We shall see. Something stinks about Afobe though. The McClean one was a nice surprise but he is garbage. "Something stinks about Afobe though." Meaning? The deal? The way MoN treated him? Onlooker alluded to it. MON couldn’t have been more glowing about him and then two weeks later he’s gone. Just stinks of the board going over his head? No idea if they have and I hadn’t even thought of it until he said something. But it is bloody odd.

Manager just dropped POTS who he loves. He raved about Afobe but sent him out. Honestly think MON has the least ‘favourites’ out any manager we’ve had in the past two decades at least We shall see. Something stinks about Afobe though. The McClean one was a nice surprise but he is garbage. Yes Bayern, we are very well aware of your opinion on our current POTS. This thread isn’t about him so save your McClean bashing for elsewhere

More likely is a bit of an understatement Smith's attacking play is his biggest strength, his wilingness to get forward at every opportunity and overlap is why he was second in assists last season. Edwards is every inch the safe player who rarely ventures into the final third, let alone take a man on to get there with the ball at his feet 😂😂😂utter rot What a thoughtful, fact-laden response as ever Bayern

But that doesn’t matter, if MON really wanted him he’d stay

I think Smith is more likely to put a quality ball into the box, but beyond that, surely Edwards’ characteristics are much more suited to wing back than Smith? Smith’s not got the pace nor the attacking willingness to get forward enough imo. Ideally you need a player that will take a few risks when going forward knowing the rest of the 5 at the back has them covered, but I don’t think Smith offers that. Too much of a safe player for me. That’s probably what MON likes though tbh. I’m fairly surprised at MON’s words though. Personally thought Tom was one of the brighter ones in pre-season. What’s going on in training and behind the scenes for him to not be rated? Odd one. Loan just doesn’t work though does it? Especially for us. From a selfish point of view, who do we have that can cover at RB if Tom goes out on loan? More likely is a bit of an understatement Smith's attacking play is his biggest strength, his wilingness to get forward at every opportunity and overlap is why he was second in assists last season. Edwards is every inch the safe player who rarely ventures into the final third, let alone take a man on to get there with the ball at his feet I disagree. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Smith take on his man. And if he has, I’m certain he has never got round him. Edwards is a fairly skillful player and goes past his man fairly often when he’s got the chance to. I do think Smith is absolutely the better player in a 4 at the back system. He’s lost at wingback though. As is Fox.

Nah, I think you're looking way too much into it mate. I think it's more of a case he didn't like what he saw once he had the opportunity to take a closer look. I think a lot of us, me included believed there was a good 20 goal championship striker in Benik and he'd suddenly rediscover his form under a decent manager but truth is despite a Carl Saunders style purple patch a few years ago he isn't actually very good.

And yes it would seem he has been which brings into play the possibility of it being done over his head. And really? We clearly need to save money. Do you think the board would risk not saving 1.5 million whilst we have 5 first team strikers to keep MON happy? I wouldn’t tbh. But it brings an interesting dimension if it has happened that way.

But that doesn’t matter, if MON really wanted him he’d stay I think this is all the more likely. I think MON thought Afobe could do a job out wide as well as down the middle but he’s realised straight away he can’t. The Jacob Brown signing makes a lot of sense when viewed down the ‘Afobe is nowhere near as good as I thought/hoped’ scope. Why would the board go over MON’s head and get rid of Afobe on loan... to sanction a £2m+ move for Brown, who is the player MON thought Afobe would be?

And he's not very good at it and lets not mess about, he was bought to score goals more than anything else, hence the mental fee we paid for him.

The only glowing comments I saw O'Neil make about Benik was before his return. Since seeing him in training and games, the only comment I picked out were the ones that said "Benik needs minutes..." which to me was a very polite way of saying "I hadn't realised just how fucking wank this guy is". Let's not cry over Afobe. It's very much a case of good riddance. Hopefully a few more will follow him out of the exit door, including Edwards.

You saw his views on Benik change after the pre season games, which is totally different to doing a bit of training. I think fitness had a lot to do with it and he realised he'd take months to get anywhere near match fit.

To coin a phrase from Bayern "what the fuck is he expecting?" If he's turned down a move it's probably because he earns a ridiculous amount of money courtesy of a 5 year contract that he'd done fuck all to deserve and even premier league clubs awash with money won't match it.
