As poor as our back line is, I would;n' be rushing him back. As long as he gets a bit of game time before the end of the season I'll be happy.

Hope he can regain form but to be honest I’m skeptical given his age and injuries. Anyway I thought Butland was our best player 😂

Anyway I thought Butland was our best player 😂 Nah, I'd still say Ryan is, as he has been for most of the last 13 years. It's only when you watch our most recent defensive performances that you realise how much we took for granted his effortless marshalling of Diego Costa et al.

That defensive diamond, I can still picture it.
Ryan and Huth in the middle like two night club bouncers, prime time Asmir Begovic barking out orders behind them and the great Steven N'Zonzi bossing it in front, 4 giants of the game, this was the platform on which we stood.

Think it was after his outstanding performance at man city where he didn't give aguero a kick. We took his high standards for granted so others got the plaudits when they were nowhere near ryan. His excellence was just expected so he always got more criticism than he deserved whilst never getting the credit he merited.

I will always hate Roy Hodgson. Remember them days - how the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Phil Jagielka and Even Callum fucking Chambers were above Ryan in the pecking order still baffles me to this day.

His excellence was just expected so he always got more criticism than he deserved whilst never getting the credit he merited. I think his very peak was in the first half of the 2015/16 season, when he was comfortably the best defender in the country in terms of form. Up until his back injury away at Leicester, we hadn't conceded a single goal while he was on the pitch. After that, the 3 goal drubbing started to leak through. Speaking of others getting the plaudits, it's typical that during that time, when we had England's best defender as the platform of our success, we took on the Stokelona tag.

Wenger and his London media sycophants made sure that weak minded Hodgson wouldn't dare pick him. When he did he was given Ibrahimovic to mark when the senior defender Cahill should have picked him up. It was all an exercise aimed at Hodgson showing everyone how right he'd been about Ryan all along.

I still have nightmares about how wasted N'Zonzi was under Tony Pulis.

I doubt it very much, Southgate wouldn’t have been put off by him playing for Stoke but that wouldn't have made him international standard.

For two seasons Ryan was the best CB in the league so on that alone he should of been called up although he did get called up by Capello but then the incident with Ramsey put paid to that.
